Default Mahindra Reva to launch vehicles in Europe in 2016. UPDATE: Winding up operations!

Mahindra Reva is planning to start selling its electric vehicles in Europe in calendar year 2016.

According to Mahindra, the ecosystem for electric cars is growing. Europe accounts for 30% of the sales of electric cars in the world. The US and China have an equally large share. Japan accounts for 8-9%.

The company will export its cars as CBUs from India. The company does not believe that it will have to expand the production capacity of its manufacturing facility in Bengaluru. The plant can roll out 30,000 vehicles annually.

Mahindra Reva, which makes the E2O electric car, has not had much success selling its products in India. At present, the company has presence in eight major cities in India, where it sells its cars through Mahindra dealerships. It is looking to expand its presence in the country in the coming year.

According to Mahindra Reva, the success of an electric car is dependent on the local tax structure and the charging infrastructure. The Government of India launched the FAME - a scheme for the adoption and manufacture of electric and hybrid vehicles. Following this move, Mahindra Reva slashed the prices of the E20. Even after the price cut, the company has not been able to sell the car in significant numbers.

Mahindra pulls the plug on electric car sales in UK.

Quote:
Mahindra & Mahindra has stopped selling electric cars in the United Kingdom due to weak sales and is winding up sales operations there, according to a document seen by Reuters, in a new setback to the Indian automaker's global ambitions.

Mahindra's decision comes less than a year after it launched the e2o car in a market it considered a launchpad for selling electric cars in European countries like Norway, Sweden and the Netherlands.

Mahindra didn't quite have a mainstream electric car they could sell in UK/Europe. They can't sell the e-Verito there, as it's basically the previous generation Dacia Logan.

While e2o & e2o+ are closer to the mainstream than the earlier Reva/G-Wiz, they're still not mainstream cars. They should have tried to crack the UK/European EV market with an e-KUV1OO instead.

Europe now has quite a few EVs that are mainstream cars, perform like mainstream cars, are able to get 5* or 4* Euro-NCAP safety ratings etc.

Amazed....M&M would never give a buy back option at the purchase price in its home country.

It is not to cause "inconvenience" to existing customers, as reported, it certainly is the law which warrants them to stay in good books. Kudos to Developed Countries to protect their customers.

Something like this can never be expected in India and we the customers are left on the mercy of these companies !

Customers in EU take safety seriously and that's where the E20 fell flat.

A fully electric Renault Zoe is not too far away in pricing compared to E20 and has a five star rating by Euro NCAP.

The old G-Wiz (the Reva sold here) has a notorious reputation in the UK and that didn't help the E20 either.

Default Re: Mahindra e2o two-door removed from official website - RIP

That's the second time Mahindra is making an entry into the UK and then following it up with a quick exit! One would suppose they would have a better strategy in place than, 'Let's give it a shot, if not we'll quit!'.

Chetan Maini did a better job with the Reva and found some success as compared to what an Industrial giant like Mahindra managed.

Quote:
The Mahindra e2o, an electric microcar penned as the successor to the Reva G-Wiz, has been withdrawn from sale just 13 months after it was introduced.

Poor sales were the carís downfall, reports Reuters, with the manufacturer blaming Brexit for the slowdown, although could not expand upon why this would hinder sales. Itís also reported that Mahindra is buying back the e2os sold in the UK for their full, original price.
Albeit, one must appreciate the fact that they did not leave the customers in the lurch like last time and end up with lawsuits instead!
