Seems like the inspiration came from Maruti Limited editions.

India seems to have become a dumping ground for the leftover kits of discontinued/soon to be discontinued cars. Another case in point is- Audi A4. While the next generation car was launched a long back in other countries, the old A4 is still doing well(Thanks to discounts) and Audi does not even want to talk about the new A4 as yet.

Other examples: Chevy Cruze, Toyota Fortuner.. Even countries like Thailand and Indonesia are years ahead for us.

To be fair, Mercedes brought our similar 'special editions' on the last batches of the E Class in India in the W210 and W211 series.

But unlike the W210 and W211, Mercedes do not seem to offer any significant additional kit in the W212 final edition.

To be honest, this is the last Mercedes luxury sedan which looks different from it's brothers. Mercedes have gone the Audi way in the sense that all it's models have almost same designs. The C already looks like a small S class and soon to be launched next gen E also looks like the S. I really miss the W203 design (before 2007). Imho, that was an iconic Mercedes Benz design.

Enough said about the launch by fellow members.Seriously, can`t they even clean the tyre for a press meet? First thing i could see in that picture is the soiled tyre.Such is the attitude of MB towards Indian market. The recent ascent to No. 1 spot has gotten into their head.
One can be quite sure it is a stunt to clear off the existing stock to make way for the new model!

I feel they should have called this the Mercedes E-CLass "M Edition". Of course M stands for Maruti edition. On a serious I think even Maruti does better job than this in launching limited editions, they throw in huge decals, flashy seat covers, rear sensors, spoiler etc. and the Limited edition(good or bad) feels different from regular version.

From where I come, "hub caps" are used synonymously with wheel caps. Wonder if this is the tiny cover in the center of the alloy wheels?

That little cab which covers the wheel nut is referred to as a hub cap. The Edition E has it in black! One of the 3 important differentiators from the outside

Very disappointed with Merc here. We're anxiously awaiting the latest E (launched worldwide) and here they throw us a 'holder' version, probably just to dump their stocks.

Significantly uncool conduct especially considering how hard they've worked to come up to numero uno position - lets not forget, it wasn't so long ago that they were down in the dumps behind Audi and BMW.

In my opinion, they're playing with the little bit of a lead that they've built up! And quite honestly, not playing well! If you want to get rid of stocks by bringing in a special edition, atleast do a half-decent job of it!

The showroom guy from BU Bhandari here in Pune said that the new E class launched abroad wont be launched in India before 2017 end? Is it true or is this just some sales tactic to sell me the present E Class?

Even is we feel this is (lam)E edition, I am sure market research somewhere must have indicated this is what the people want. Maruti continues doing it as it sells :(

Seems like "one soiled tyre" is one feature they omitted from the list !

I'm not thrilled but neither am I surprised. The nav itself is worth about 1.2L and if there are some additional kit and bling attached, thats not such a bad proposition. In fact, 2 years ago they had also launched Edition C for the outgoing younger sibling.

When you buy these luxury cars, you buy into the experience and not just the gizmos. Think of it...will this move stocks faster compared to the A6 or the 520? If yes, then whats wrong. All the three cars are old and if new models keep the enthusiasm going a bit longer, who are we to complain?

Is this unique to the Indian car scene? I dont know but till the time the entire set up moves to the real large volume game, this is on par for course.

Default Mercedes E-Class Edition E launched in India

For those who are not crazy about the latest and greatest in automotive world, this would be an awesome deal. Twenty five years down line this may be a classic. Who knows.

Forgot to put this up earlier. New car in the family! Dad wanted to go back to his old days and buy a Mercedes. He went in for the Edition E200. Picked it up about a month ago. Sundaram Motors, Bangalore was the chosen dealer.
