The infotainment system shown in that video is from European Captur with RLink feat. Android auto etc. But our version seems to be getting the same duster one which is BAD.

If the Renault Captur for India can be offered with such fantastic features as seen in this model, it might rattle some players in the segment. From these images, built quality seems top notch. But will the same spec come to India?

Rushlane has driven the Australia-spec Captur and posted a test drive report here - https://www.rushlane.com/renault-cap...-12250720.html

Most important part of the review -

"However, the Indian Captur will be dressed to resemble the Euro-spec Captur you see in these images, inside and out."

So - No. This is not the car we would be getting, but a lookalike without built on a much cheaper platform. Seeing reviews from the Russian market would give a better idea of the car we would get eventually.

The Renault Captur is a pretty common sights here in the UK. I had a chance to rent it for a day and I did not like it one bit. Yes, the ride quality is good along with room for 4 passengers but the interiors are just too basic without any sense of occasion. I did not like it one bit. I promptly gave it back the next day and exchange it for the Vauxhall Astra which I absolutely loved.

Since it was a rental, the spec was pretty basic but it did have the same touch screen seen on the Duster in India. It has manual air con controls, alloy wheels, projector headlamps etc. The engine was 1.5L diesel in 90BHP guise with 6 speed manual gearbox.

I hope Renault does not get overtly ambitious and prices it too much higher than the Duster. If they do, I doubt it would see any sales to write home about.

Regards

Going by the ads/promos where its being tagged as "premium" , i believe it will be priced definitely much higher than Duster.

As JEEP positioned themselves comfartably between Creta and Tucson, Renault have to hit a sweet spot in pricing. If they are targetting the Compass and price it close to that, it will be very difficult to garner decent numbers.

I have repeatedly mentioned this earlier, Renault have to price the Kaptur variant to variant at par with the Creta and no higher! They can skip the base variants which are at par with the Creta's E & EX and let the Duster compete the Creta in the entry level variants.

Basically they need to correct the duster's price a bit and bring it on par with the Brezza and Ecosport. That way they target a bigger market. And they need to let go off the 110 BHP variants of the Duster, ensuring that Kaptur comes in to play there.

Renault seems to have read the Indian market well with the Kwid, I hope they don't err here.

I am betting that Renault are facing a confusing time

1: How to position the Kaptur considering the aggressively priced Compass which has superior engineering?
2: Where will the new Duster sit? How do we revive numbers after the publicity about poor safety

The product marketing anaylsts must be working overtime at the moment!

You bet! Compass has really set the game of fire. And if they can manage volumes, rest of the guys have to really think through their game plan; esp Renault.

My Take: Renault should go back to their introductory pricing when they introduced the product. So you have 9-12 for Duster and 11-14 for Captur and not more.

I saw the Kaptur on Chennai roads yesterday. Size wise it looks exactly same as Duster if not smaller. Front end is quite nice but don't expect an aggressive SUV type face. The bonnet line was not even as high as in an Ecosport. Ideally they should just replace the Duster mid to top variants with Kaptur at similar pre-discount prices and retain just the base variants of the Duster.

This product is dead in the water before its even launched. I can imagine some people ponying up for the Duster for its superior ride quality despite the dated interiors and lack of features, but given the option of paying even more for the Captur or going with a competitor, I bet the overwhelming majority of people will opt for the latter.

Aiming for the Compass with the K(C)aptur will be quite a tall order for Renault. But if they place it in the Creta territory it probably can get some decent numbers in that segment.

I believe this India spec Captur/Kaptur fit perfectly in Renault India's pricing strategy till Jeep announced the Compass prices. Now, with its ordinary interiors and same chassis, engine combination, if they still price it premium then God save this product. Honestly, from whatever I have seen so far, nothing looks premium about it.

Renault badly needs another hit product, the kwid sales are going down, from 10K they have come down to 7k levels.

Only one variant for diesel and petrol each.

Extreme customized paint options from factory including choice of shades on roof, body, pillars and ORVMS.
Roof decal patterns ala. Ignis with matching seat cover design
An App (Android) for customizing the car paint shade.
Auto LED headlamps with cornering lamps(activated at 7kmph and 20 turn) and taillamps.
Autowipers
Keyless entry and go
Cruise control
Customizable LED Mood lighting with App based light/color settings
R-Link 3.0 with Android auto/AppleCarplay
Climate control
Cooled glove box
Rear AC vents
No sunroof
Mileage higher than duster (Renault claims better aerodynamics)

These are what one of my friends in Renault dealer network has informed me just now. He's done with training.
Unfortunately no pics were allowed and not even mobile phones/pens.

Launch in 2-3weeks followed by delivery.

Most unfortunate thing he mentions is price in range of 18-20L OTR Hyderabad.

No CVT/AMT/AWD as of now
