Including exports, the company moved 348,443 cars. That results in a profit after tax of Rs. 42,647 per car! It's huge and cars like the Baleno, Vitara Brezza, Ertiga, Ciaz & S-Cross are contributors.

A couple of years back when they only sold hatchbacks + 1 compact sedan, Maruti was averaging Rs. 25,000 / car.

I am afraid, this will further bolster the monopolistic market of ours, which can be detrimental in the long term.
Hope other Indian manufacturers catch up and create a healthy competition, otherwise we would end up in a scenario where 99 out of 100 sold vehicles are feather-weight maruti cars.

Maruti Suzuki enters 2016 Forbes India's Super 50 list of companies.

Quote:
The three-stage methodology followed by Forbes together with PwC India uses a set of eliminators to arrive at a critical mass of companies, which was then subjected to the tests of market capitalisation growth, sales growth CAGR and return on equity over a three-year period to ensure consistency in performance

Default Maruti-Suzuki registers highest ever monthly sales in July 2016!

The country's largest carmaker, Maruti-Suzuki India Limited, has added yet another record-breaking feather to it's glittering cap - it has recorded the highest ever monthly sales in a single month in the Indian market.

Fighting back from a 10% dip in overall sales for the month of June 2016, the company registered a staggering 1,25,778 units sold in July 2016, which is a growth of 13.9 percent over the same period last year.

Lumped together with 11,338 exported units during the same period, Maruti-Suzuki's total sales for July 2016 stood at 1,37,116 units, up by nearly 12.7 percent over July 2015.

The entry level duo of the Alto and Wagon R sold a total of 35,051 units, down 7.2% YoY (July 2015: 37,752)
The quintet of the Swift, Ritz, Celerio, Baleno and the Dzire sold a total of 50,362 units, up 4.1% YoY (July 2015: 48,381).
The Ciaz sedan, which is now seeing sales of over 5,000 units a month, sold a total of 5,162 units in July 2016, up 146 percent, albeit on a low base (July 2015: 2,099).
The UVs comprising the Gypsy, Ertiga, Grand Vitara, S-Cross and the Vitara Brezza sold 17,382 units, up a handsome 151.3% YoY (July 2015: 6,916).
The Omni and Eeco vans sold a total of 14,748 units last month, up 24% (July 2015: 11,887).

Vitara Brezza, Baleno and SVHS tech in Ertiga and Ciaz worked very well for Maruti Suzuki. Nexa completed one year and more than 1 lakh cars have been sold from Nexa showrooms. Both Nexa cars are in my garage now .

Volume would definitely go up with new launches like Ignis. I think it's time for the largest car manufacturer to launch few variants for enthusiasts . It would be started with Baleno booster jet and I wish few more would follow like 1.4 booster jet S-Cross( rare possibility though).

Well Done MSIL!!!
Had predicted in June 2016 sales thread that MSIL will be back with a bang and might cross 50% of total sales in India much before Festival season. With Ignis launch delayed, I thought this was not going to happen in 2016 but they might have just done that looking at numbers of the past. was trying to find out when was the last time MSIL had 50% or more share in a competitive market. Anyone has any idea?

Looks like July been a decent month for some of the lesser lights as well.

From the looks of this report folks at Renault, Nissan and Ford would be smiling apart from the celebrations at Maruti and Hyundai.

Banking on a robust growth chart, a solidly planned future road map which includes 15 new models and continuous network expansion for the next 5 years, Maruti-Suzuki India Limited has claimed that it was firmly on course to sell 2 million (20 lakh) cars by 2020!

That would mean a near jump of almost 42% growth in numbers of what the domestic auto giant has achieved in FY2016 (nearly 14.3 lakh cars).

The company is also preparing to launch 15 new cars in the Indian market by the same period. Currently, the auto major's portfolio in India consists of 16 cars, most of which are bestsellers in their respective segments.

To achieve these ambitious growth numbers, MSIL's Gujarat plant, which is scheduled to start operations from 2017, is considered to play a pivotal role in the coming days.

Quote:
The Gujarat plant is being set up through a contract manufacturing arrangement between Maruti Suzuki and Japanese parent Suzuki. Investment in the plant is being made by Suzuki and vehicles will be sold to Maruti at cost.

“The commissioning of the Gujarat plant is being expedited and it may start operations by early 2017,” Kenichi Ayukawa, Maruti Suzuki’s managing director and chief executive officer, said in the company’s annual report for 2015-16 released on Thursday. "Our contract manufacturing arrangement with the Gujarat plant will enable us to devote time to customer-centric functions."

On new safety norms, Ayukawa said the company was on course to meet timelines. Maruti Suzuki said it was gearing up to meet safety and emission regulations while minimising the impact on customers. The company, which has a 47 per cent share of the country’s passenger vehicle market, said it would enlarge hybridisation of its cars. “We were the first ones to launch mild hybrids with reasonably good volumes,” said Ayukawa. Maruti Suzuki’s sedan Ciaz and utility vehicle Ertiga have mild hybrid options.

Maruti Suzuki also said it was trying to offer more factory-fitted CNG cars to address environmental concerns. Ayukawa said the company was trying to enlarge its focus from engine performance, fuel efficiency and space to styling, infotainment, hybrid technology and luxury features.

Maruti Suzuki Chairman R C Bhargava said the sales and service network were being expanded. The company has hired professionals from the real estate industry to acquire land for sales, service and spare parts facilities.

Wow! That's almost churning the entire portfolio or expanding into every possible segment (probably below 20 lacs, including true RS cars). Exciting times ahead.

Any speculation on these new 15 cars? Hopefully one of them will be competition to Innova!

Competition - they've put the challenge out there. It's time to shape up or ship out.

Nothing astounding, they most likely are different engine options and facelifts of the existing cars aka best sellers.

Can't disagree! Seeing the Brezza and Baleno, we can safely expect Maruti to dish out more variants with differing engine options and of course, Maruti style facelifts.

A competition to Innova will probably, IMHO, be an Ertiga variant with a better engine than the current 1.3L Fiat, with some gizmos sprinkled over and presented through Nexa!
With the GST, Maruti need not stick to its 4m constraint as well!

Absolutely no doubt that it will be lapped up!

I still feel, a lot of Maruti's market share for their Swift/ Dzire range of cars come from Tier 2 cities or even smaller places. Hyundai has its presence to a large extent in these places, but simply cannot match Maruti's brand value and trust.

But, in Metros, the newer cars like the Breza/ Baleno are doing wonderfully well, for them being really competent products in their range. It is so heartening to see Maruti getting stronger with more competition.

Also, the sad part is that the European and the American companies are doing less than average to woo the Indian buyers. Some of them tried the cost effective/ frugal car approach to Indian market, and some even tried to sell their push over products. Maruti can handle these quite well, which is proves time and again.

I guess its about time for bigger manufacturers like Ford and VW to try and make an all new car with a mind to conquer Indian buyer, than trying the other way around (American/ European success might not translate to Indian success, and to remain stubborn and say Indian buyers don't spend enough to buy a european/ american car is a white lie)

And, on a side note, can Suzuki translate the success to other countries too?
