Takes a big man to praise a competitor. I've always been a big fan of Pawan Goenka - classy, well-spoken, humble, fiercely intelligent and a long-term thinker.

Production constraint to impact sales growth - the company has over 136,600 pending orders of its popular models including Dzire, Baleno and Vitara Brezza with the waiting period of 2-4 months.

In its financial reveal, Maruti Suzuki profit beats estimates. Up 3.4% year-on-year to Rs 2,484.3 cr; forecasts double-digit growth.

Quote:
Maruti Suzuki reported a 3.4% year-on-year increase in net profit to Rs 2,484.3 crore for the three months to September,
Quote:
Net revenues at the country’s biggest carmaker rose 21.8% year-on-year to Rs 21,768.2 crore, driven by a near-19% year-on-year jump in volumes and higher realisations of Rs 4.42 lakh per unit, up 3% year-on-year.
Quote:
The carmaker currently has 15.5 lakh units annual capacity at Gurgaon and Manesar Plant. Suzuki's Hansalpur-based Gujarat plant currently produces 10,000 units of premium hatchback Baleno per month. In FY18, the company expects to get 150,000 units from Gujarat. As the company has started the second shift, the annual capacity will increase to 250,000 which will lighten the pressure at Gurgaon and Manesar plants.

While in the first half of the fiscal year, the firm sold a total of 886,689 vehicles at a growth rate of 15.6 percent. Sales in the domestic market stood at 825,832 units, a growth of 17.1 percent. Exports stood at 60,857 units.

Maruti Suzuki may shift entire Swift production to Gujarat; mulls 3 million production

Quote:
Maruti Suzuki is gunning for a production of 3 million units by 2025, after the initial 2 million is crossed in 2020.

The first 1 million units was reached in 15 years for the Japanese car maker.

Quote:
The Baleno production could then be shifted to Manesar to optimise use of the space vacated by the Swift. This strategy would be followed by the carmaker till the second facility in Gujarat is operational. The latest version of the Swift being a new model is expected to be given priority in production in 2018.
At present, about 550 units of the premium Baleno hatchback are made daily in Gujarat.

Maruti Suzuki's dominance Pan India! ( April - Sept.- 17)

Key takeaways:
Quote:
1. The Product Planning of Maruti is a matter of envy for global biggies and have left them clueless on how Maruti manages to bring products which align to customer expectations and price it lowest in the respective segment as well
Quote:
2. Maruti has been very aggressive in terms of building Market Share pocket(region) wise

Zonal - North stands at No.1 with highest MS of 52.2%

Quote:
-The Average Per Month’s Volume of Maruti in Maharashtra is higher than what Tata/Honda/Toyota would sell in the entire country in a month!

-Maruti sells over 98,000 cars combined every month in the Top 10 states!
Quote:
Kerala – It is said that it is a tradition in Kerala that the first car at any household had to be a Maruti! It holds true even now in some households and it still commands 56% Market Share in Kerala! The likes of Indus Motors, Popular Motors belong from Kerala and are touted to be one of the Biggest Maruti Dealers in India. Kerala’s Indus Motors is estimated to deliver Maruti Suzuki vehicle every 15 minutes!

Maruti has it's best ever month, Nov '17, in terms of Volume Market Share with 53.06%. I would like to think that this may increase to about 55% to 57% once the new Swift is launched.

The share price has crossed the milestone of Rs 9,000 for the first time, hitting a record high of Rs 9,119.95.

The announcement of tie-up for electric vehicles last month also boosted sentiment. Maruti Suzuki puts Indian auto market on global map, looking to scale greater heights.

Maruti stood at its highest ever market share of 52% in the month of November this financial year .

Quote:
The strong performance of Maruti drove India into the top five passenger vehicle markets in the world. If the growth story can be sustained with new investment lined up in the Gujarat facility at Becharji, the company may well drive India into the top three passenger vehicles market.

I think Maruti will soon face a reality check. Maruti is more perception than facts. This holds true for their cars as well as share price. What the consumer is looking for nowadays is new products. Maruti has had a plenty of new launches in the past 2-3 years and some have done well exceptionally(brezza, baleno, dzire) and some not (Ignis -already discounts are being offered, S Cross). The products are neither best built nor best priced( which was the case earlier). The competition is fast catching up and there are plenty of good launches that have just happened and some around the corner.
I will just list a couple of strong competitors to Maruti products :

Nexon-Better built and way more reasonably priced than the brezza. You get 1500 cc engine with 260NM torque with silent ride, better build and still 80k cheaper for XZ+ vs ZD+. I am a proud owner of Nexon, driven approx 4000 kms on all types of roads and extremely satisfied. Recently went on a trip to J&K with a friend who was on his Brezza and he had more praises for Nexon than me. Sales would pick up slowly as more and more are seen on the road. I get stopped by people every other day at the parkings, enquiring about it.
Ecosport: Offers Petrol, AT options, better build, ride and handling, now great interiors and competitively priced

Verna-Now since the Ciaz has lost the FAME subsidy advantage, the Verna is back in the game and how. Again better built, better engines (petrol as well as diesel). A great all rounder and well priced. (CIAZ diesel has discounts in the range of 1 lac being offered already)
City - It has already regained its lost glory from Ciaz.

New Amaze (Around Feb, March 18)- I am sure Honda would ensure it gives tough competition to DZzire

All New Family Car from Hyundai - Due early 2018. Will make life tough for Wagon R and the likes.

Carlino from Hyundai (End 2018) - Should be another tough fight in C SUV segment.

Jazz Facelift - Should see fresher interiors and more prominent front.

Some other not so significant launches - Figo Cross, Vios (still doubtful of 2018 launch), Go Cross, XUV 300, Kicks, Tigor EV, Tiago EV, KUV100 EV, Redigo AMT

Disclaimer : I do not own either Tata Motors or Maruti shares
