But I get your point with Ford. This is happening too often now, with Ecosport, Figo, Aspire and now this.
To me it appears that it is an effect of imminent launch of the new Toyota Fortuner. Unofficially pre-booking started from 14th/15th Sept. May be they (Ford) got a bit jittery. Even the delivery period of 3.2, 4X4 AT Titanium which was 6 months till a few months back is now within 4 weeks as per the local dealer I checked with. SA, in fact, assured me to try to get it within 2-3 weeks for specific color variants. Kind of good information for me.

It is indeed strange on Ford's part to not have made a price cut on the 2.2 4x2 MT Trend trim. Why would someone buy this variant now?

May be because it has highest quoted mileage of 14+. No doubt they would sell it at discount and may be it could make sense for luxury taxi brigade.

I believe Ford definitely want it's customers to experience majority if not all bells and whistles it offers, more so as technology and features are the key focus since EcoSports launch (filled to the gill). Gone are the days of bare-bone Fiesta (Classic and before) where driving pleasure and dynamics were the only brand offerings.

I think they are doing ok with media campaigns and product launches and definitely need word of mouth to revive themselves as existing sale numbers are not doing justice to products Ford has.

Just my 2 cents!

Cheers.

Guys,

Ford India just called me. I told them how surprised I was at this news. Please note that, as of date, this is a festive season offer and may or may not last beyond Diwali.

Going by the price changes, it's clear that the top variant is flying off the shelves (as is typical of luxury cars). The Trend variant, on the other hand, might be moving slower than expected.

Why is the 4x4 cheaper? Best guess = stock clearance.

Were dealers anyway giving huge discounts on these variants? Negotiated discounting is good as it gives a 'feel-good factor' to the transaction but unilateral price drops like this (10-12% of ex-showroom) unnerve the market.

Existing owners must be irate at this news while on-the-fence potential buyers will enjoy the immediate benefit. Not good for the brand to raise prices few months ago and then lower it again by such a huge amount!

You are right. They have a huge incoming supply of AT kits which needs to move in the market and hence for the time being is priced lesser. The prices may go back up once the festive season is over and the stock normalizes. And along with the Titanium versions would go up to keep the price difference same.

Also, only those customers who were not willing to wait for Titanium kits were going for Trend whereas the larger population was willing to wait given the narrow price difference. Hopefully with the larger gap that may pick up.

My guess is that they might be pitching the 2.2 AT versions against the Innova Crysta Automatic.

Pretty Smart if that is indeed the case.

Bang On. That is a super brilliant idea. If that is really true. Why did they not think of this before?

Actually an aggressive campaign to highlight against Innova would be great. Perhaps as an extension of the 200 Cr brand campaign would be in order during festive season. Now that the pricing gap is minimal on the Trend end of the product compared to Innova Auto.

Ford Endeavour: Trend variant gets a price cut of up to 2.82 lakh-20160926_204257.jpg

I want to point out the difference in Ford preferred comprehensive insurance cost.

2.2L 4*2 MT is 25.5 Lacs with 1.03 lacs as insurance
2.2L 4*2 AT with 26 lacs price tag has 76K insurance premium

same is the case with 2.2L 4*4 MT & 3.2L 4*4 AT

Why is the insurance premium reducing with increase in ex-showroom price???

The OTR price difference between 2.2L 4*2 MT & AT is just 32 K and is just 97 K between 2.2L 4*4 MT & 3.2L 4*4 AT even before price reduction. One can get an Endeavour with a bigger engine & AT at a premium of just 93K (note that the ex-showroom price difference is 1.07 lacs)

What do you guys think? Is there a mistake in the price list?

Overall its still bad pricing strategy. I still believe they erred in hiking the price too soon when they did some time ago. The previous price difference between variants was logical. It is possible that with the now widened price gap, they may have more customers going for the cut price Trend variant. That means loss of revenue if they shift fewer units of the price hiked Titanium. There's also no reason to shuffle prices both way in short spaces of time for what is essentially a successfully launched car. It will only confuse the market.

IMO, they launched a great car at a great price. They should have stuck to those price figures across all variants and reaped the rewards.

One thing for sure. This is going to attack some Innova AT ZX sales, the 2.2 Trend AT

It also has the one unattainable feature of top end Innova AT. A bench seat in the middle row. 😆

I guess that Ford is following Global trend of pricing AT less than MT. I hope the price for 4x4 MT is retained and not raised again.

Following footsteps of Maruti, as they did for S-Cross, is Ford going to give a cheque of the difference amount to the people who booked the Endeavor before price cut? They can set an example.

Not sure if global but yes, in North America. AT variants of any given car are cheaper in US/Canada. Not just cheaper but readily available. I've just not seen any MT there. They are extremely fewer and farther in between.

I, being an AT lover, would love to see this trend happen here. What next? Ecosport AT costing less than MT? Bring it on, Ford.

We cannot compare the two markets. In the USA, 99.99% of cars on the road are ATs. Slow-moving MTs are an unnecessary inventory burden. They don't have the economies of scale either.

In India however, there is no doubt that the AT costs the manufacturer more.
