Should be the taxi market. There is a sudden explosion in the numbers atleast here in Bangalore, all yellow board vehicles.

Correct. In fact, Zest has also been released to taxi segment recently.
The surge in the numbers is due to that probably.

I myself own a Zest and can vouch for its "value for money" tag

The data that Auto Punditz sent to us had 20 as the Santa Fe figure. I believe this is correct figure and 220 is a typo. The Santa Fe's monthly sales have been hovering around 20 - 30 units for a long time.

Utility segment continues to shine.

The UV segment which grew by 21.4 percent to 70,544 units. The strong UV sales helped offset the muted performance by vans (15,097 units), which fell 7.7 percent and passenger cars (195,036 units), which remained flat.

I think Autocar Pro is placing Brezza/Creta etc in 'Utility vehicles' category (since they are sold as compact SUVs). That's why we see 21% growth.

According to Team-BHP/AutoPunditz numbers, there has been no growth in Utility vehicles category - 38,451 in Oct'15 as against 38,355 in Oct'16.

3 (ciaz, celerio & kwid) out of 4 cars in my garage feature in the Top 20 best selling cars list.

But that doesn't make me any happier than to see Tiago selling well. What a great looking, capable little car! I wish Tiago changes perception that customers have on Tata Motors.

The total 220 includes 20 Santa Fe and 200 Tucson (billed last month)

Wasn't there a strike at Honda's plant from the workers union a few months ago? Did it effect their production capacity or something?

If Honda doesn't understand this then they will just be a one car wonder in India! I mean did they seriously think Indians are crazy enough not to make out the mobilio in the BRV? I see a BRV parked right next to a Creta in my apartment parking and I can tell you that the is no way any kind of competition to the Creta!
If Honda continues to make a rehash out of their existing cars I don't think it's legacy will go beyond the city. I see the same mistake with the WRV which looks so much like the Jazz.

They just need to invest in one proper Cross over like the Creta or the duster!

What is up with the Ritz? Is 5 dispatches a conscious decision by MSIL or did they simply forget to send them out? Even the Swift numbers have declined - a poignant thing to note for the festive season.

Tiago is showing what good engineeing combined with good pricing and improved after sales can do to the fortunes of a product. Wow! Awaiting the Hexa launch - should be more than a sun-burn for the Innova and heck, dare I say it, the Fortuner.

Ameo is slowly but surely calling people in. As someone said earlier, a sum total incease of 1k between the Polo and the Ameo is a good thing.

All that jazz and beyond. Creta, Elite i20, Baleno and the Brezza are the new darlings of the upper middle class mass. They have achieved critical velocity!

20th century fox aka Omni is still in the top 20 with a consistent 6-7k sales MoM. Too many school going kids in the country, I guess.

Is Renault still manufacturing the Scala? Just 14 cars sold in October!! The Scala is a good VFM car which does not cost a bomb and offers excellent space for the price. The top end diesel Scala is pretty well loaded too. Renault should look to plonk the AMT on the Scala to increase its appeal.

  • Good to see KUV100 losing steam and TUV300 gaining units. I am starting to see some base model KUV100 on yellow plates here. Its a very ghastly sight!
  • And yellow plates remind me of Crysta. Saw two of them recently. And I got a couple of brand new Ritz through Uber. More in Bangalore than Kochi. Looks like the commercial segment lapped it up before it got phased out.
  • Looks like BRV is also facing the music now. And Mobilio is showing an upswing. Intersting!
  • Endeavour at 388 units. The fight just became a lot more harder starting this month. Its a little sad to see a very capable truck at a great price struggling so much.
  • Celerio is amusing! I never thought that car will sell so much. And its knocking at 10k units per month now. Despite MSIL slapping on the worst diesel engine in the market for a passenger car on it. AMT is here to rule. MSIL got that spot on. But Alto will be worrying for them at 18k. RediGo at 3k units and Kwid with AMT will offer stiff competition to the erstwhile champ.
  • Glad to see some very consistent numbers from both Octavia and Superb. Those gorgeous machines ought to sell. Hopefully, it give Skoda enough reasons to fix their ways and go back being a manufacturer of choice before the Kodiaq is here.
  • Tiago at 6100 units. Kerala is not nice to Tata being a strong market for MSIL and Hyundai. And I am seeing many over here too nowadays. Brilliant!
  • Lots of Ameo as well. Too bad it came at the expense of the Polo.

Thanks for this brilliant analysis!

A few suggestions on the reports:

1) Can we get a histogram also for the two pie charts (body style distribution, and manufacturer origin) please?

2) Can we track in some way, the growing popularity of automatics? India seems to be slowly moving from manual to auto, and would be good to track this trend somehow!
