I was on fiatpunto.it. What a great looking car with fabulous engines! Pity, that Fiat have found another product to ruthlessly murder in our market. Ditto for Linea.

With a dealership, I got to know that, Palio Diesel 1.3JTD will be launched in July-2008. The dealer ship is modifying his own showroom to accomodate these and this dealership also service TATA diesel cars and are parallel competition to another TATA-FIAT dealership in Hubli. Javali Motors.

I believe in these people, as this dealership is the one praised by overdrive magazine.

NDTV had a special programme on the Auto Expo yesterday night at 10.30. The CEO of Fiat India confirmed that the top end Linea variant would come with Blue & Me technology.

This may not be true because the top officials from FIAT have confirmed about Palio 1.3MJD to be made available in Feb-Mar08 (Some of the tbhpians also have mentioned the same in autoexpo threads). Please confirm this with Javali Motors. They might have got confused with Linea/Punto launch dates with Palio 1.3MJD. Couple of dealers that I enquired in Bangalore have the same confusion.
July08 seems to be launch of New Indica with 1.3QJD as well.

Question

Hello ppl, this is my first post. I have a question in mind about the engine power delivery of the Fiat Linea:-

AFAIK the Linea will be avilable in India with the 1.3L diesel engine

1. How powerful will be the Linea with 1.3L 90bhp (with VGT) compared to the Maruti DDIS 1.3L diesel?

I ask this because I have compared the TD Tata Indigo with the Dicor variant(which has VGT) and there is not a huge difference in the power delivery, and driveability. Also a number of mags say this.

As, it is pointed out in this and other threads, I fear that the Linea will be underpowered compared to the size of the car- as compared with swift diesel/ sx4 diesel (maybe)
I drive an Indica DLS 2003, as ask me what an underpowered car is!No offences to anyone/ any company, I love my V2 for it;s fuel efficiency... however looking to upgrade this year hopefully... maybe a Linea

I agree with you even I fear the same. Just hope its not underpowered
for its size. SX4 Diesel I heard will be coming with 1.9 DDIS . I hope
they dont underpower it to price it competitively!!

Fiat makes some of the best cars in seen in India
  • The Uno - Owned the diesel and loved it
  • The Palio - Streets ahead of its time and as close to a no lose proposition as possible
  • The Siena/Petra - 100 BHP 1.6 liters - all the credentials but next to no takers
If only they invested half the time and money in actually giving good service to the customers.

Agree with posts elsewhere in the thread. Linea and Punto, two brilliant cars and most likely doomed to martket failure.

Maybe they should just tie up with Maruthi and keep supplying them with engines.

Engines
The engines equipping the new Fiat Linea are based on a perfect balance between performances and fuel consumption: muted engines, responsive and spirited to meet driver demands in any situation.
Two engines are available at present: the 1.4 petrol delivering 77 bhp and the 1.3 Multijet diesel with a power output of 90 bhp. They will soon be flanked by the 90 bhp 1.3 Multijet with DualogicTM robotised gearbox and the 1.4 Turbo T-jet, fuelled with petrol and delivering 120 bhp, the quintessence of technology and power mated to fuel economy

Thats why the IF in bold in my sentence

Lets hope they position Linea just like Fiesta (1.4 and 1.6 Ltr Petrol Engines, and a diesel).

Fiat India will need to move with an agility now, their lackadaisical approach doesnt impress much. Feb is over and no sign of their Palio MJD!

Fiat also has a 1.4 FIRE 16 v DOHC that puts out 95 PS. Perhaps this could do duty on the Linea when it is launched in India?

1.4 petrol 77bhp is more economic than 1.4 95ps.
