In all probability and rumours point to the bigger TUV getting the front facing 3rd row and therefore rear AC vents.

However, there are contrasting reports on the engine. Some are suggesting 120 bhp 2.2 mHawk, while others saying a higher-powered variant of the 1.5L 3 cyl. Will have to wait a bit before we know, however considering the added weight, it would be very useful to have the 2.2. Let's see how it shapes up!

I like TUV300's old-school boxy design. But it's let down by 3-cyl. engine and tiny wheels. And not to mention stubby appearance due to sub-4 metre target, I mean length to height ratio.

I hope M&M addresses these issues in TUV500. 500 needs Scorpio's Mhawk engine and bigger wheels. Coupled with stretched body, it would look very butch. Bring it on M&M.

Does the continuity of the same wheelbase imply that last row wouldn't have much space? Will it be a problem for a family of 7 who use all the seats only once or twice a month, and that too for distances within 100 km?

I dont think so. Even the XYLO has the same wheelbase, but it has extremely spacious third row seats.

The space of 3rd row in all the SUV in India are not that great compared to the full 7 seaters that is available outside India. Usually the 3rd row is an individual space for small kids

Would begin to differ on this - the Xylo has an extremely spacious last row seat. It has the best leg room compared to all the MUVs available in India. Headroom however is a bit less only for tall people. I believe the Lodgy and Innova come 2nd spacious.

Yes the comparison of better is fine but the comfort for an adult sitting in the 3rd seat is bad in all the vehicles in India be it SUV or MPV. Your knees will be at the level of your chest which is not comfortable.

Interiors of the TUV500 snapped in Chennai by a Motorbeam spy, which are reportedly similar to the TUV300.

The test mule spotted is a base variant courtesy those steel wheels it sported.
On closer look it is evident those are the old Scorpio’s tail lamps.

I suppose those scorpio taillights are not the lights which will make it to the production line. Their are a lot of gaps if you see closely. Scorpio's taillights are present as some form of brake lights have to be present in the test mule.

On the second note, *IF* Mahindra decides to launch this with side facing last rows, the passenger carrying capacity will increase a lot. It reminds me about the decade old Tata Sumo with the same kind of seat configuration. Back then it was a people mover, wonder Mahindra is trying to do the same here. This makes sense if after GST, the 4-meter norms change.

Spotted by a Motoroids reader in Pondicherry.

Quote:
the upcoming SUV from Mahidra & Mahindra will feature a full fledged third row with seating for two. So instead of the twin jump seats on the TUV300, the TUV500 may get with a proper bench seat set-up for the third row.
Visually, apart from the extended rear, the SUV is not likely to be any different from the TUV300. The rear end will be different from the TUV300’s as the stretched version’s rear screen will feature a slight rake as compared to the upright one on the TUV300.

Not sure, but looks like the wheel base is same as the TUV 300 which leads to that odd XL sized rear overhang. Looks wise it would have been good to have the increased wheel base and bigger tyres as the current 300 looks a bit odd from the proportion of height to length perspective.

But on second thought, a seven seater TUV with front facing third row seats, increased wheel base and bigger tyres with the larger 2.2 engine shall have a super bad impact on both scorpio and XUV, so am sure M&M would keep it at a safe distance

Mahindra TUV5OO will have a 9-seater layout (optional). Speculated to launch in September 2017.

Quote:
This is the same long wheel base TUV300 the world has been talking about. The car is scheduled to be launched in September 2017 and is said to come with an optional 9-seater layout. This will be a 2+2 jump seat layout. The current TUV300 is already offered with 1+1 jump seats in the third row. It is said that the company might introduce it as an option to a regular bench seat third row. So the Mahindra TUV500 might be offered as a 7-seater as well as a 9-seater!

The car looks good. Hope they do not under-power under-tyre it, like TUV300. Nothing less than XUV engine and tyres would do on this car. Love that high bonnetline. Even TUV300's bonnetine looks as high as roofline of some low-slung'ers. I'm waiting anxiously for this, new Scorpio and Nexon. I will zero in on one of this three. Need a diesel automatic SUV under/around 15 L.

More on the TUV 5OO,
Quote:
The test mule closely resemblances the current generation Mahindra TUV300 compact SUV. However, the upcoming TUV500 will be longer wheelbase SUV unlike the TUV300 which is a sub-4m SUV. To be seen carrying a boxy design, the upcoming TUV500 will sport extended rear overhangs and fixed window in third row that proffers the SUV with differences with its sibling.
