We seem to be spoilt for choices in the sub 4m 'Compact Sedan' segment.
The pioneer was Tata Indigo CS - CS literally means Compact Sedan in the name.
But, since then the game has changed - and how.
Today, (well almost) - Tata has 3 models in the category!

It's never been easy to have a 'boot' that did not seem like an afterthought to the hatchback version, or did not seem chopped off from the proper sedan version.
Just a poll - who do you think got it best?
Some images for reference. Tried my best to stick to the same colour / series for best results. Please excuse the crappy edits, made at the drop of a hat to settle a hotly debated topic amongst some of us.

THE verito is not a sub 4m sedan
IMO, the ameo and aspire offer fantastic bang for your buck

When I read the thread title I get the impression its about the size and/or practicality of the boot.
But if it's about looks then the Tigor is the best by far. Not sure how much space it's got in that truncated boot.

Cheers

IMO overall proportion and boot integration ranking from best to worst is as follows:

Aspire>Tigor>Zest>Amaze>Xcent>Indigo eCS>Ameo>Dzire

I think most of us can agree that Aspire and Tigor have the best overall proportion and Dzire has the worst. Even though Ameo has a better boot integration, the overall proportion is off due to a comparatively longer looking front portion.

My vote goes to the Zest. IMHO it is the most well balanced design of all cars in this segment. The Tigor's tail lamp design is quite applaudable but from the side profile, it doesn't have that balanced look to its design that the Zest enjoys.

Hyundai Xcent top spec.
I ve used several as Uber rides here in Bangalore and these are unfailingly comfortable and surprisingly spacious in the back. The boot too, holds quite a bit!
Very comfortable suspension for these broken Bangalore roads! A perfect city car in many ways!
An excellent package indeed at the price!

Thank you for pointing it out.
My mistake.
One of the sites displayed the length as 3991 but it is indeed actually 4221.

The same reason why Etios does not qualify here.

Must request mods to remove the Verito from the poll.

The OP is talking about the best integrated boot design :). Xcent fairs well in all compartments except this one. I myself otherwise always pray to get an Xcent allotted, each time I use Uber.

Side profile - Xcent.

The C pillar flows properly down and there is a decent boot length as well as compared to other compact sedans.

One reason for this is the smaller dimensions of the hatch (Grand i10) it is based on.

Rear profile - TATA Tigor.

There is no competition here. That mini Jaguar rear makes the Tigor the best looker from this angle. I don't like the side profile though where the boot looks rather stubby.

Since this poll is only about looks, Tigor gets my vote. The Aspire and the Tigor are almost identical in the side pose, but Tigor really stands out in the rear 3-quarters angle. None of the cars looks good from the back.

Though the "styleback" of the Tigor is refreshing, I'm not sure if the loading area will be big enough while compared to the others.

VW Ameo it is. The boot is the most clean in my opinion. Note: the poll is about the looks of the boot, and not necessarily rear space, where Ameo isn't good.

My choices in descending order of preference are:

Amaze-Tigor-Aspire-Amaze-Zest-Xcent-Dzire-Indigo.

Personally though, I would stay clear of compact sedans. Borrowing Kapil Sharma's words, I would say Woh mujhe pasand nahi :).

I like looks of the Xcent the most. Hyundai have got everything right about it.
Ameo is a pretty nice car to look at too.

Why is the Verito in the list? Shouldn't the ugly Verito vibe be there in its place?

My vote goes to Xcent.

As this poll is only regarding the looks in my view the cleanest and best integration of boot is done by Xcent. Xcent's C-Pillar and boot length are more proportinate than others, no wonder helped by the car on which it is based. Even when viewed from dead center at rear, boot doesn't look bloated or uneven. Tail lights are just ordinary, but its more of nit picking.

Ameo comes close, but when viewed from rear three quarters the boot ends abruptly. And we are already used to Vento, post Vento's well defined proportions, Ameo's boot looks awkward.

As far as boot integration goes, Dzire was not in contention for this contest.
Amaze comes close, but for C-pillar which is quite upright, it loses.
Aspire is second after Xcent. Well designed but then there is so much designers can do in that limited length.
Indigo lacks sharpness, Zest is just slightly off Aspire and comes 3rd in my books.
Tigor looks amazing, but the lack of real length is obvious. Kills the very smart design which otherwise is more than contemporary in its segment.
