A 2 door beat to revive their sinking ship? That's a HUGE bet that chevrolet are placing.
If the plan to bring Camaro and price it around 50 lac ex- showroom or the new cruze with an aggresive pricing then they can dream of seeing some sunshine.

The Chevrolet Beat is a 4 door hatchback. This is their bread and butter model. Lets see what all future models they have to give for we Indians.

Little Beat, still fooling people as a 2 door hatch with its hidden door handle, after so many years!

Chevrolet has even pulled down their website, it just goes to a customer survey. While they are definitely launching a refreshed beat and then more cars later. It is a little alarming that the situation is so bad that they are desperate to get feedback.
But I hope they actually use it and act to make the customers happy. They have had genuine success with good products in the past, so they obviously have some idea what to do

This is the message what the website shows, once you have completed the survey.

Well, to me, its odd, that they have done this. If they are indeed making an exit, this is, certainly, not the best way to put it out.

Not sure how far GM will be able to go,with the planned closure, given the fate of its 800 employees who were workers here.

Another interesting fact this newsreport gives is that about defunct automobile plants like Daewoo, Surajpur, LML, Kanpur, PAL Peugeot, Kalyan, Mumbai and lastly the HM, Uttarpara plant. These are idle due to disputes and litigations.

@anjan)c2007; Unfortunately we still do not have a social net in place for the inevitable closures. A reasonable percentage of operations can logically be expected to die, esp in the early years.

Not have such a net makes is tough to hire people for short term requirements. Once hired they stay hired.

My information is that they are rightsizing (discontinuing Tavera/SAIC models) and not closing India Ops. If they were then theirs no need to take a survey !! Some points also point to this:

1. They have sold 1 plant to SAIC and kept the other
2. Essentia is being launched here in Q3 to be followed by Cruze
3. Beat is being exported to foreign markets from here resulting in good profit
4. GM have already established a presence here and wont leave a 9-10% growth market

Also they may launch the newly facelifted Trailblazer next year if Beat/Cruze launches go well

Oh well, they were wasting their time, money and resources in India anycase, layoffs and cost-cutting by international companies have become the norm in the country today and so they continue.

Time to reallocate the factories, dealership establishments and offices to other brands that actually are relevant to the scene. I fear that Fiat may follow in the same path right after this, around the year end or next year with no certain product launch plans and/or increasing sales visible. They can continue with the engine development though.

Time is ripe to sell the GM vehicles to cabbies, maybe they can put more miles on it than the owners, resale the less said the better.

Just came back from a Chevrolet Showroom in Chennai and the atmosphere in the showroom was not very encouraging. I am looking a car for my wife and Beat Petrol was one of the options. So went to make an enquiry on the availability and pricing.
The immediate response was that they do not have a Beat Petrol in stock and have only Beat Diesel LS in stock and cannot take orders for vehicles which are not in stock.

Either they have stopped taking orders due to expected launch of New Beat or slowly exhausting the stock for closing down the showroom.

Looking at the showroom condition, the probability is high for the later.
1. The AC had been switched Off (Imagine the heat @12 Noon in Chennai ) and all the representatives were sitting next to Pedestal fans.
2. They were not bothered to note my contact details in case they want to contact later.

Okay, got the latest update, hot off the oven.

GM India is winding up operations in the next 3 months. The employees have all been informed of the same and have been asked to look for a new job along with the severance package mentioned above.

Very strange compared to the feedback I got from KHT Chevrolet Bangalore. They say that they arent winding up and its all rumours, agreed that one plant was closed..moreover they are shifting to a new showroom and service center in the next month or two. (I did see a new building coming up)

I think the new building is for Tata, Fiat & Isuzu.
