Pretty sure that the front portion wont slide back completely.
I just got a chance to drive this in USA and the variant i got was Limited. It got the panoramic moon roof. front portion slides back and back portion is fixed. Overall i like the car. Pretty decent build and a baby Grant Cherokee. Hope Jeep will price it well for india.

A friend sent me this video over WhatsApp. Piece of cake for the Compass!

And kudos to the driver too.

Is it the Trailhawk? The wheels are from Trailhawk, but there is no badge on this Compass.

And no fear of toppling over, like in the case of body on frame SUV's. Just wish it had a low range.

The front approach angle and the lack of the air dam clearly shows this is a Trailhawk Version.

Which at least as of now will not be launched in India.

This comes with a simulated low range - The Trailhawk comes only in the 9 Speed Automatic.
The Compass in regular mode - (when 4Low has not been engaged) has been configured to always start in 2nd gear.
So when you engage 4 Low and Rock mode - It starts in 1st gear and stays there - and the gear ratio is in the range of 20.x : 1
I agree this is nowhere close to the 7x.x : 1 in one of its other cousins !!

But a 20.x ratio is not available in any of the immediate Compass Trailhawk competitors. - Making it an extremely capable soft off roader.

I WISH they could marry the trailhawk with the regular top end compass with a Manual Dual Range and an Airlift Package - So we can get the best of on road and off road !!

In the below 2 pics - one can see that the Compass is on a horizontal pivot - see saw - it climbs and holds position / stays / balanced - horizontal.

The driver skill while obvious - I am not sure if there is a contribution from the vehicle design? The experts can comment.

This is definitely NOT the Trailhawk Edition. This is the Limited 4x4 which is launching in India. Proof?

See the 51 sec shot in video:
Meeting the Jeep Compass. EDIT: Priced between 14.95 to 20.65 lakhs-capture.jpg

The distinct Trailhawk badge is not visible which otherwise looks like this:

@rohansachar

I WANT to be wrong In fact I would be delighted if the limited can do everything that was shown in the short clip.

You are right that there is no trailhawk badge - I did notice that. The badging looks very like a limited.

My only submission is take a look at the approach angle - the limited does not come with this bumper.

One more instance of what is shown in images / videos vs what is actually available.

Waiting for the TBHP review -

Mods - If the Official Review is not yet complete or started - Is there any way we could ask the reviewers to have the Compass put through paces as the above!

@Sheel
The Compass is equipped with ESC & ERM (Electronic - Stability Control & Rollover Mitigation) and hopefully should be able to perform admirably.

This is a very critical factor and I can see this coming into play(for this class of vehicles) while maneuvering / changing lanes / avoiding obstacles at speed on the highway

I assume that you are referring to something like this.
It has been referenced in the below clip as a moose test. And conducted b/w 55 - 73 KM/H.

This is a standard test and this is being conducted by a Swedish agency.

The compass in the clip where it is shown off roading - may not be the most conducive environment for toppling.

The Toyota Hilux failed the tests in 2007 and again in Sep 2016(new gen) and in Mar 2017 the current version was able to pass the test.

Incidentally

The Jeep Grand Cherokee also failed the moose test badly in June 2012 with tyre blowouts
Later in 2014 with changes and ESC & ERM enabled - it was able to ace the moose test
PS:The test is performed with full complement of passengers and load.

This for some failed moose tests

Below video of the Grand Cherokee - Pretty sure this may not be the base model - Amazing stuff at around 0:33 seconds
Lots of nice stuff the Jeep cousins can do - climb stairs....

PS:I am sure there are many others vehicles that can do the same - but with the Compass - coming in and allowing us some of the same at relatively affordable prices (very hopeful) feels amazing.

On a lighter note : What does the Jeep remind you off when you see one with either of the rear wheels of ground / in the air

13 lakhs to 26 lakhs? I am a bit confused. Are they probably hinting the ex showroom price range? In that case I am disappointed. Top end will be on road for close to 30 lakhs

That would also mean a tempting starting price, may be petrol. But not enough to lift my moods. With 6 airbags available only on the top end, it will end all my hopes of owning a Jeep.

I'm damn sure that FCA has put this up after reading this very thread and getting extremely confused with all the price speculation

Yes, while that's true we have to keep in mind the flex of the monocoque while crossing these extreme axle breakers. Guess, we cannot have it all.

The variant in the video is confusing!

As I mentioned, the wheels are from the Trailhawk, but the different badges and the red/ black trim of the Trailhawk is missing. Its black/ chrome on the exterior of the said Jeep.

Maybe its a Limited 4x4 with Trailhawk wheels as rohansachar says. We are in for a treat if that's true!

13L?

SCross 1.6 is 11.8L. Creta 1.6 base is around 12L? Sounds too good to be true. And most things that sound too good, mostly are not true. Hope Jeep is not making a last minute PR blunder.

If it's 13L starting, boy have they set the cat loose amongst the pigeons.

But the price range in that pic is too huge as well. Hope the features justify it.

EDIT - Once again -

Post GST prices of all models -

Petrol Automatic

Creta Petrol Automatic -
1.6L Dual VTVT 6-Speed Auto SX+ - 1,248,485

Tucson Petrol Automatic -

1.6L CRDi VGT 6-Speed Manual SX (O) - 1,393,580

Couldn't it be that the actual price would be somewhere in the middle with about 6-7 lakhs separating the base and top end variant? The 13 lakh gulf as shown in the image doesn't make sense; likewise with the screenshot contest if 13-26 is indeed the actual range.

Just saw the ad for a show on TV - Great Escapes with Kunal and Cyrus. They seem to be travelling in a Jeep Compass with a sunroof.
Does that mean that there will be an option for a sunroof for buyers as well?
Aren't they shooting themselves in the foot by not giving it as an option at least right from the beginning.

I guess FCA is going to price the Compass right in the middle of Creta and Tucson.

If they manage to price it close to Creta, it is going to be a runaway success and I am still hoping that FCA somehow achieves this feat. Just tired of seeing too many Cretas on the road and I don't see a worthy competitor anywhere in the near future in its price range
