As embargo from Maruti Suzuki on first drive reports lifts, reviews are out. MT is the pick of the lot.

Conclusion:

Quote:
To sum up, Maruti have taken what was a tremendously successful car and turned into a machine that now fully deserves it. The new one is an improvement in nearly every area.
Careful studying of the features list would suggest that the ZXi/ZDi (8.34 lakh and 9.68 lakh respectively) models seem like the smart choice.

Engines and performance:
Quote:
The drive experience on both is highly familiar with the petrol offering excellent smoothness down low and a zingy, rev happy top end. The diesel exhibits the same strong shove of power after an initial bit of lag and diesel clatter remains on the high side. Automated manual transmissions are available on both models and they offer a decent driving experience. Upshifts are a bit slower than we’d like, but downshifts are quick and well timed. Still, this is an option to consider solely for the sake of convenience – the manuals are still where the fun’s at. AMTs are not for the driving enthusiast, but help in converting staunch, manual-only customers to the conveniences of two-pedal driving.
Ride and handling:
Quote:
This is where the new Dzire really shines. This car has better ride comfort than any of the recently launched Maruti products, Baleno, Vitara Brezza and Ignis included. There’s a new level of suppleness and bump absorbing capability to the suspension that was unanimously appreciated by everyone who drove the car. Handling too is well sorted with an eager willingness that shines through the chassis’ tendency to roll when pushed hard. The roads around Goa didn’t offer the opportunity for high speeds, but as with the Baleno, we expect planted highway manners.
Quote:
Steering weight is well judged and consistent while braking performance is up to the job. We did find that the AMT-equipped cars offered better braking feel.

Motoroids and Motorbeam have come out with their reviews of the new Dzire.

Motoroids Summary

Quote:
The new Maruti Suzuki Dzire is a brilliant product that meets and at times even exceeds the expectations one has from a compact sedan. It has been packed with features and touches which tick all the boxes on a modern car buyer’s checklist and is powered by tried and tested engines, where the diesel takes efficiency levels to a new high.Out on the road, the new Dzire looks attractive, has the presence, and it won’t be too long before you see a lot of them on the road, or queue up yourself to buy one. A great new product we just couldn’t find faults with. Like most other Marutis, this will be a blind buy for many and there aren’t reasons why it shouldn’t be.
Motorbeam Summary

Quote:
What's Cool
* The styling feels more proportionate and complete
* The insides are loaded with a lot of equipment
* Both the engines are very efficient
* Ride quality is wonderful
What's Not So Cool
* Pricing is a bit high for the AMT variants

Pardon my ignorance, but can someone please advise on what the 'P' switch is for? It looks like a Parking Sensor switch - but what purpose does it serve?

Can one switch off the rear parking sensors? Or the DZIRE has front sensors too, and the switch to enable/ disable them?

Thanks!

It is for activating/de-activating the back-up/reverse alarm.

Reverse alarm as in the irritating music that plays when one engages the reverse gear!? It comes as a factory fitting?

The first thing that comes to my mind when I hear reverse alarm is a female heavily accented voice saying "Attention please. This car is backing up!"

Sorry for the off topic discussion. This is my last post on reverse alarms.

Thanks!

This is to turn off the reverse parking sensors. Even the Baleno has this. No front sensors on the Dzire. Oh, and the Dzire does not come with the reverse gear alarm, I don't think any car comes with it as a factory fitting.

I am in a bit of a dilemma regarding which variant to book. We are upgrading from a Chevy Spark. Wife says she wants an AMT. We have zero experience of that so I prefer the manual.

She also says the ZXI features are not worth the extra cash compared to the VXI, whereas I think we get pretty good equipment for the money, which are:

1. Alloy wheels (no prior sedan driving experience so I think larger wheels would help).
2. Reverse Parking Sensors (I feel it is needed for a larger car like this).
3. Front fog lamps.
4. Rear defogger.
5. Tweeters for enhanced audio experience.
6. Engine push start stop button.
7. Automatic climate control.
8. Electrically retractable ORVMs.
9. Driver side auto up power window.
10. Pinch guard power window for the driver.

I understand we have suffered GM's decision to wind up and this is a sudden unexpected expense for us so she is thinking of saving money, but this one is going to be a long term investment so I somehow think it would be worth it.

The VXI AMT (wife's choice) is Rs. 8.33 lakhs OTR in Bangalore while the ZXI AMT is Rs. 9.15 lakhs.

I would love the ZXI manual, which is Rs. 8.57 lakhs. The car would be driven by her to office on most days.

Help please !!
