I think the Xcent will be the most affected due to the launch of the new Dzire. Hyundai and Maruti are the first choices for most car buyers in India and they compare models mostly between these 2 companies. The rest of the car companies fight over the left overs.

This time around, the Dzire seems to have the looks, fit and finish like the Hyundais - hence expect good discounts in Xcent post launch.

The Tigor will nicely capture the lower end of the compact segment for people who want a CS but on a very tight budget. But this will, at max be a 5k per month car.

I saw on YouTube that the new car is about 100 kilos lighter than the outgoing model. I know this helps in making the mileage better, but does this in any way compromise on the safety aspect of the vehicle? I mean the tensile strength of the metal is important but wouldn't thinner sheet metal bend/twist easily?

That is precisely the question, yet MSIL claims that the new Dzire is based on HEARTACT platform, which qualifies for the next level of safety and upcoming Indian norms under the new vehicle testing program.

I am not afraid of the weight loss (80 kg in petrol and 105 in diesel) unless there is a compromise on structural strength. Also MSIL has started offering reasonable active and passive safety features in the base / entry level trim to further assure the buyers that they don't intend to make safety (Optional), which was there in the past.

I am sure, this car will be certainly better compared to previous generation Dzire on structural strength and occupant safety.

For obvious reasons I couldn't stop appreciating the Maruti designers for the most proportionate looking sub 4 meter sedan yet. Good to know that the new Dzire uses more high tensile steel and better structural strength compared to its previous generation. I thought the Dzire's front end design will take time to getting used to until I saw the new Xcent. The Xcent will sure have a tough time against the Dzire unless it has a significant price advantage. Is the Dzire an India specific model or will it be exported to other counties as well?

Safety is a vague term these days.

In terms of passenger safety, I'm willing to take a risk with the new DZire as Suzuki seems to be taking steps to transform themselves into a safer car maker. Not only have they declared that the car conforms to the upcoming safety norms, but also made safety assists like airbags standard. This is much better than the Suzuki of the earlier generation which openly mocked their own safety standards.

But yes, the lighter weight and body shells could mean more dents on the car from even light incidents.

The last gen Dzire(2nd gen) was available in South African and some other markets. AFAIK, the South African Dzire was Made in India.

Your last sentence hit the nail on the head! Personally for me, somehow safety and MSIL have always been an oxymoron . This is the exact reason why I didn't even consider them this time while buying a car. They basically cater to the typical Indian mindset of "sasta maintenance" and "kitna deti hai". I do hope however that going forward they take passenger safety as their first priority.

It does seem way better than the previous model in every way. Hopefully the safety aspect of the vehicle is as fancy as the name these guys use for their platform. Although personally I'd never consider a MS no matter how much they improve. Their first impression hasn't been good for me and I guess that impression has stuck with me.

Please stop doing this. Every time I see a new photo of the beauty, my heart skips a few beats!

You or the Official reviewers will end up causing me a heart attack . The front view is awesome and so is the steering wheel. The chrome on the bootlid is surely an eyesore. But then, it is the kala teeka that will ward off the buri nazar of the competitors.

The jelly bean Zen has a worthy successor in the department of looks now. I am heads over heals in love with the new Dzire. Well done Maruti!

It depends on the section design to absorb/ directionally transmit the force/ crash energy. So, I won't be bothered till they meet the regulations (which have been successfully downgraded by the cartel under SIAM to 56kmph offset instead of NCAP's 64kmph )

I could find the below attachment showing commonly used section shapes in construction industry (couldn't find such detailed example from Automobile domain, but the concepts are similar). Each of the section has different load capacity, even though the base metal sheet is of same material and thickness. [Link]

+10 to that with ever thinning outer surfaces.

You are wrong here my dear friend. The priority is to make more and more moolah. The safety claims that are being flaunted now are not because of sudden sense of moral awakening, they are because of the tightening of regulations. If this was not the case, most of the auto manufacturers would have brought their EU/ US/ JP safety packages long back, including Suzuki. But the manufacturers pushed the changes in norms to as late as possible.

Just not to blame the auto manufacturers only, buyers are also to blame. "Bas saste mein mil jaaye" (just get it cheap) mentality has done biggest dis-service. The latest example being the queue outside dealer to buy BSIII vehicles and least bothering about the environment.
