i will be a steal if it the FE is good the power doesn't matter in this segment for the indica . and regarding indigo XL i think it is a sucess already as indigos are far more reliable and low maintenance vehicle.

Maybe Tata is trying to create space for the new Palio by posiitoning the petrol Indica at a lower price segment.

Would TATA allow such a thing to happen ? They don't sell Diesel palio's at TATA showrooms because they cannot match Palio in that segment, but for the price

Tata's have updated their website with the specs of the new Indica Xeta 1200cc, however, I wonder why they haven't really advertised about the engine even though it seems to be a big change.
They once again only talk about price reduction to divert everyone's attention. I guess there isn't much to talk about the engine.
On paper the engine spec doesn't sound too bad.
1193 cc
65.3 PS @ 5000-5200 rpm
10.2 kgm @ 2600 rpm

They have retained the 1400cc for the GLX variant and have reduced the prices for the remaining variants by Rs.25000

That sounds a lot better than the 55 bhp that was talked about here. Lets see how it moves on-road, though.

Having driven the Xeta, I was impressed by its refinement levels, and of late, one has not heard any reliability issues iwth the xeta.

So this is an "Ace" move by tata

Did anyone notice, they have changes the version names to include V in place of L except for the GLX version. Now version list is GV, GVE, GVS, GVG and GLX! Is it necessary to change name of versions in order to slash the prices? What is Tata upto?

It think it is better to have different version names. The customer should know what he is buying. It may also be legally required (don't know).

It is also possible that they may be facelifting the indica and hence renamed the versions similar to the way the brought about the V series in the indigo after its facelift!

They haven't talked about it. There is no notion as such. Perhaps its due to launch on new Indica Xeta (1.2L one), they will give those versions GLE, GLS... name!

indica at 2.3Lacs,new palio at 3.5lacs,the new indica at 4lacs and the punto at 4.5 lacs.great when this happens as there will be something for everyone.

the 1.2L engine will definitely be tuned for economy so performance will be blunted,its a good compromise though as people never seem to mind the lack of power.

Actually there is a very nice catch-all policy here. Tata's have reduced the engine size and brought down the price to make life hell for Maruti. Now people get a car the size of their bedroom with 65ps on tap (Way ahead of the competing Marutis) and yet the price is almost threatening the M800, the lowest on the price ladder. And yet for those who want some more juice they even have the 1400cc engine available as GLX at a very attractive price.

And in all this, if no one noticed, Tatas probably have become the 1st manufacturer in India to give people so many options on the same car. You can have the car with different fuel types (Petrol, Diesel, Diesel-CNG combo), Engine power (for both petrol and diesel types), trim levels...And then even size of the car (Hatch, sedan, SW). I mean this is unheard of in this country!
