So we are getting only the AT version of the vRS? Nothing for the purists or am I asking for a lot? (read MT)

Even though the car might be mechanically identical to the vRS 245, it has been detuned to 230 hp for fuel quality purposes. Those 15 horses were because 95/97 octane isn't freely available across India.

Although this is nothing a simple remap can't fix, probably get more than 245hp too.

My eyes are, and will remain peeled for signs of the inclusion of the famed electronically adjustable suspension. One can hope that VAG wouldn't it to keep costs down.

Will the vRS be significantly faster than the Vento TSI? Ha! Even the poverty-spec Octavia 1.4 TSI with a manual transmission is faster than the Vento TSI!

I drive and own a Polo TSI and an Octavia 1.8 TSI, and the difference in performance - especially once you wind it up - is night and day! The Polo / Vento TSI are great in the city, but tend to feel bogged down on the highway, where you will need to really wring the motor by its neck to get it going.

The 1.8 TSI, with its 175 horsepower engine, is effortless. Even gentle throttle inputs are sufficient to dismiss other road users.

The vRS, with 230 / 245 horsepower will be in a different league, IMO! My only concern is the steering, at the moment. The regular Octavia's steering leaves a lot to be desired. Let's hope the vRS receives a well-calibrated steering.

Auto Express reviews the Skoda Octavia vRS 245 vs Ford Focus ST ( though the Octavia RS for India is rumoured to be de-tuned to 230 hp)

Steering: Octavia feels composed on the road, with huge performance. There isn’t masses of feedback, but it is fun.

The steering also gets heavier in Sport mode, and is nicely weighted, but it doesn’t have as much feel as the Ford. It’s the most disappointing aspect of the car; while the chassis is very capable, it just isn’t as communicative as the Focus ST.

Suhaas, from what I can gather we are getting the similar UK-spec RS 230 with 230 ps (227 bhp).

We WILL get the clever VAG 'Vorderachsquersperre' or VAQ electronic differential (e-diff) but NOT the adaptive dampers + electronically adjustable suspension.

The VAQ does seem to work very well on the twisties as per the various reviews. However, we need some good empty curvy roads to really feel the difference. In India, I fear that in 90% of times, we simply do not have the safely empty and curvy roads needed to attain the speeds required to actually enjoy the VAQ effect!

Short RS 230 review:
https://www.carthrottle.com/post/is-...for-greatness/

VAQ explanation:
Refer: https://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-...xplained/30560 for a superb explanation of the e-diff. The downside is of course, it adds fiendish complexity to the already complex DSG setup

Why is that? Is it simply because Octavia is 1.4 whereas Vento is 1.2? Even then, I thought DSG is faster than any manual transmission when it comes to 0-100; when comparing cars with similar capacity engines.

Not necessarily.

Sure, in spite of the super slick MT in the Octavia, the Vento DSG will go through gears much quicker! But the Octavia 1.4 TSI's sheer torque (250nm -
incidentally the same figure as that of the 1.8 TSI) will ensure that it's got the legs on the Vento.

So does anyone have any clue as to which VRS we will be getting here.

Internationally there are 2 petrol models 228 hp and top of the range 245 Bhp model as well.

As per reviews its the 245 Bhp version thats hot and sounds good exterior wise.

Largely confirmed to be the RS230 model and not the RS245.

For the people who are buying it, lucky that they need not worry about damaged rims and tyres. With a Skoda, they will have plenty of other things to worry about! :
I have a 6 year old Laura TSI with 17 inch Rims. I have been a happy customer and definitely not a worried one during these 6 years of ownership

Waiting for the vRS

The sales person in Tafe Access has confirmed the official launch is going to happen on the 30th of this month.

He is not sure about a manual gearbox option. But it is almost certain it will be available only with the petrol engine. He told he can deliver immediately if I choose the 'Corrida red' shade.

Just got off the phone with a salesperson here, he claims that the vRS is coming with the petrol 1.8 TSi manual bumped up to 220ps and a diesel 2.0 with 184ps. The diesel may or may not come with 4x4. Launch at the end of the month and deliveries during Diwali.

The engine spec for the petrol vRS that he mentioned does make sense if the car is to be assembled over here because the same drivetrain is already implemented in the Suerb.

Can someone in the know confirm this?

I spoke to Skoda this morning and the Octavia 1.4 TSI has been discontinued in India. 1.8TSI is available as auto only. He said vRS will be only petrol and only auto.

I dont mind the auto but I hope they give us the vRS 245. That would be not only great for us but it will also give Skoda a good image for bringing their Halo car here for us.
