According to Guenter Butschek - CEO & MD, Tata Motors, Dr. Leverton plans to move back to the United Kingdom for personal reasons.

Dr. Leverton, who has been a part of Tata Motors since 2010, was working out of the Tata Motors Engineering Research Center in Pune. He oversaw the development of the Bolt, Zest, Hexa, Tiago and the upcoming Nexon.

Over the past 31 years, Dr. Leverton has held senior positions at Land Rover, Rolls Royce and JCB. He was the chief engineer for the 2003 Rolls Royce Phantom.

One more senior/experienced person joins the quit list, although this may be more for personal reasons than anything else.

Just 2 months back Tata Motors went through a restructuring by cutting down about 1500 jobs although they had described it as more of a loss to automation and overall slimming down of the company.

Tata seems awfully slow in implementing the talents and knowledge of such talented veterans of the automobile industry.. Hyundai grew from strength to strength by hiring Germans in under a decade.

IMO Tata needs a fantastic designer to take their cars to the next level.. I've always never mentioned them as potentially suitable cars for people purely for the design.. they need to come out of the Indica-esque shape. The build of the Bolt and Zest is great though.. reminds me of the prev-gen Figo and of course, Punto, their ride quality comes closest to the legendary flattening ride of the Fiats.

In this article, one thing particularly caught my attention is - "The company has embarked on the turnaround programme with the next 6-9 months being critical as against an earlier planned business transition to be achieved on the next 2-3 years."

So, Tata Motors wants to achieve a 'turnaround' in 6-9 months? Do they have the products lined up to do so? Do they have an organization to do so? Is it possible when a CTO who was one of the key members to develop the slightly appreciated products of recent times has quit?

It will be disappointing if Tata Motors fails to pull it off. Market will be even more brutal (as it is consumers do not consider Tata Motors on top of their list) and Tata Motors will find it even harder to turnaround.

Watch out Tata Motors, you might end up losing a lot (almost everything)! But if you do turnaround, gains will be small in the short term. You will have to persevere before you are able to build your brand and a consumer oriented attitude through your firm and dealers.

I think that the general consensus is that Tata is now well sorted in the design department, and has been putting out some really good looking cars. (Though personally I do agree that another step away from the 'Indica shape' will take things to the next level!).

The Tiago, Hexa, Tigor and Nexon are the most recent examples of designs that were a big hit.

To back up my statement above:
1) Poll: Best looking Compact Sedan?
2) Poll: Which car wowed you at AE 2016?

Either way, this is a bit off-topic as this thread is about the CTO.

How did you draw the conclusion that the turnaround is to be achieved in 6-9 months whereas the article says that 6-9months is only a critical part of a longer turnaround plan ?! And then based on that flawed conclusion the usual rant about how Tata motors is doomed etc etc.

This thread will soon be filled with more such posts commenting how the company is doomed for this one reason - that the CTO decided to quit

Comon guys. Let's be more mature than Arnab Goswami.

Something to do with the profile not being to his liking? Quits in less than 2 months of the new role being assigned.
