2015 Maruti Suzuki Baleno Delta.

Well I can live with only the reverse sensors or manual AC or hard plastics. But what I miss the most and should have been present in all the cars produced in India should be:

Automatic Wipers (at least proper Intermittent option should be present rather than a gimmick)
Height Adjustable Driver's Seat

OT: What's more disappointing to see that even vehicles with premium positioning like Jeep Compass and ISUZU MUX skips the Automatic Wipers, which I think is too essential. It minimizes the stress and pain of adjusting the wiper speeds hugely whenever it rains.

I drive a Hexa XTA. Two things I really really want are

1. 4x4. This is a big miss.
2. A 100 liter fuel tank. The current setup is a joke for a touring vehicle. It asks for refuelling every 450km.

These two are the non negotiable must haves. Apart from this, it would be nice to have a powered driver seat, telescopic steering adjustment, Android Auto with a bigger 7-8 inch touchscreen and a full sized, openable panoramic sunroof, quite like the Tiguan.

Otherwise, the vehicle is pretty much complete.

Android Auto for some reason will always remain out of reach for BMW owners. Audi and Mercedes both offer Android Auto and Carplay world wide. BMW offers Carplay worldwide, but not in India. Go Figure.

Simply cannot understand why they have an issue with it when even Maruti and Hyundai are ready to offer it.

From what i've understood, it seems they don't wish to relinquish control of the interface to Apple and Google. Same reason why Toyota/Lexus don't offer either service in their cars.

Lexus GX 470
I miss the paddle shifters. On the Grand Cherokee I could simply shift to lower gears while going downhill and while off road
shifting to 4-3-2 using the floor shifter is tricky and incontinent, and does not really lock the gear, just tells the highest gear which should be used.
Though 2nd STRT (Second gear Start) takes care of the problem of too much torque in 1st gear while in sand

Fiat Linea 1.3 Multijet Emotion Pack :
What I wish it had :
  • Better quality of plastics.
  • Auto-folding ORVMs.
  • A bigger 1.6/2 ltr Multijet under the hood.
  • Slick-shifting gears for the Manual (like the compass).
  • A 7-speed DCT mated to the 1.4 multiair petrol (like the jeep and this combo would be swell but I know that's not gonna happen).
Ford Figo 1.4 Duratorq TDCI ZXI :
What I wish it had :
  • A deadly 1.5 ltr diesel under the hood (like the new gen).
  • An even more feature-loaded ICE along with steering mounted audio controls.
  • Automatic Climate control as the existing one does the job perfectly, but it sometimes chills us to the bone and we have to keep fiddling with the controls and I just hate fiddling with the blower settings a bit too much on the go.
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga 1.3 DDiS VDI :
What I wish it had :
  • Dual airbags in addition to ABS on the mid-trim(though the facelift now finally has it).
  • A better ICE with Bluetooth connectivity on the mid-trim along with steering mounted audio controls.
  • Automatic climate control on the top-end trim atleast.
  • A bit more room on the inside.
  • A 1.6 MJD under the hood since the 1.3 feels underpowered for this vehicle.
Tata Hexa 2.2 Varicor 400 XTA :
What I wish it had :
  • A bigger touchscreen HU with Apple carplay and Android Auto.
  • Software update of existing HU which supports Applw carplay and Android Auto.
  • A standalone Navigation system.
  • Super-drive modes standard on the AT.
  • The Awesome Borgwarner AWD system with the AT would've been a perfect combo.
  • Safety features such as ESP, TC and Hill descent control shoud've been given on the AT.
  • Better Power-to-weight ratios.
  • Electrically adjustable driver seat.
  • A sunroof.

I own a 2015 Swift ZDi and I wish it had:

1. A factory fitted driver's armrest. I have an aftermarket one, but it simply doesn't feel rigid.
2. One touch up for the driver's window
3. The old school key type ignition instead of push button start.
4. Backlit power window buttons. Not sure if this is really a miss, but couldn't help mentioning it.
5. Better NVH
6. Wider spare wheel

Wink Re: What features do you wish your car had?

I own a 2014 Honda City VMT and I wish it had:

1. Spare alloy wheel
2. Wider tires

On a side note for all cars, how comfortable will it be to have a button to close
boot lid, bonnet(Call me lazy)

My wife often hits the boot release button inadvertently while adjusting seat height . It led me to think whether it's possible to include a closure button as well instead of manual intervention.

1. All wheel Discs
Finally someone who thinks like me. Whenever I put forward this idea of rear disks for the Polo/Vento/Fabia/Rapid, people will circumnavigate the globe to find reasons not to do it. Reasons like "It's not required for India", "You can get the same braking by just upgrading the front discs and pads" etc.

Coming back to the main point this is what I would like on my BMW X1 S-Line:
1. Front Parking Sensors.
2. Reverse camera.
3. Navigation / Android Auto / Apple CarPlay.
4. Motorized tailgate.
5. Leather seats.
6. Cruise control.
7. Integrated or provision in the wiring for installing Dash Cam (Front view, rear view and internal cabin view).
8. Integrated or provision in the wiring for installing a tracking device.

1,2,4,5&6 are actually available on the European models.

+1 sorely miss carplay in my 530D GT. Have some after market solutions, but still thinking.

Paddle shifts.
Ventilated seats.
Parking Assist &
Soft closing doors.

last 3 features are available elsewhere but removed for India.

Honda Civic

1. Bluetooth connectivity
2. Rear AC vents - with huge glass area the rear gets pretty hot in Chennai Summer.
3. stiffer suspension

all the above might be available in newer cars compared to my civic which is 10yrs old now, but the civic still is a looker and beats most of the cars hands down and will be with us for the atleast another decade, so i sorely miss these features.

Ford Figo

nothing to complain but just to pick something I would want,

1. Rear Split seats
2. A proper height adjustable driver seat.
3. a printed or a shark fin antenna

VW POLO 1.6 GT TDI
  1. Better Anchor - All round disc brakes
  2. Point 1
  3. Point 2
  4. Point 3
  5. Sun Roof - the international version has that
  6. Better headlights - Bi-xenon would have been ideal
  7. Electrically retractable ORVMs - to avoid some of the highly skilled 2 wheelers on Bangalore roads.
  8. Boot light - irony of this omission by VW is that none of the 10,000 variants/facelifts of the Polo ever got this

VW Jetta Comfortline 2014-

1. Touch screen head-unit. At a price point of 20L, touch screen head-unit should be omni-present.

2. Reverse camera.

3. Projector headlamps. If not Bi-Xenon, atleast halogen projectors should have been offered.

Ford Figo 2017 Titanium-

1. Better looking instrument cluster.

2. Bigger displays in the car- Head unit, MID etc. Tiny displays make the already feature lacking car feel even more basic.

3. Reverse sensors as standard.

4. Adjustable rear headrests. At a price point of 5L and above, manufacturers should really not skimp on such basic features.

5. Rear and front armrest. Not many cars in this segment have front armrests, usable ones atleast, but why do manufacturers think that people buying equivalent hatchbacks or even premium hatchbacks don't need rear armrests but people buying compact sedans do?
