Optra diesel is a good bet. I would love if they can plonk this engine in an SRV.

I guess, it is a good bet. Moreover optra has very good looks (subjective), I always feel the exterior finish is very good on optra.

Even the Optras build quality is very good. This could pose some problems to the skoda octavia as well as the Verna.
Hyundai may not be able to bring their CRDi fully loaded at a higher price point even if they planned to.
The Optras will be a better buy.

There was an article in the TOI business section yesterday announcing that the Optra would indeed be available in its diesel avatar. So, finally its official.

Reliable source mentioned that the Diesel version of Optra will be out soon and the positioning it to kill the Civic by pricing it lower than it..

The power will be around 130-140bhp...

Default Will GM learn?

I am not sure that GM will price it right. Look at UVA pricing. If they are to compete with Honda/SKODA they will have to price it right. Give price that can not be refused.

I dont think GM will be able to give us 130-140bhp as internationally the car has been launched with 121bhp. However if they price it right and make it sound like value for money as it was when the Optra was first lanuched then i think it can give a fight to the Civic, but surely it cant kill the Civic, since its more modern then the Optra with its newer design and features.

One more reason why Toyota should consider going diesel with regards to the Corolla.

I think Gm will initially concentrate only on the optra diesel and then only think about the aveo diesel at a later date[unless they are planning to detune the optra diesel for the aveo].

Think globally also they dont have a diesel for their aveo right now,not sure though.

Had another look at the diesel optra today. Along with the facelift
will come the diesel engine.
The car is fast...I dont mean fast-for-a-diesel fast. But I had the illusion of it being refined earlier. Though very smooth sounding at low cruising speeds (<20kmph), at full chat it sounds like truck. Infact, when it is accelerating , one could be forgiven for thinking a Spacio/407 is approaching. It needs more sound deadening ASAP.

A diesel version of the optra[called lancetti sedan] has been launched abroad.

Here are the specs:

2.0 litre TCDi diesel, common rail turbodiesel engine, developing 121PS at 3,800rpm and 280Nm of torque at 2,000rpm.

Wish chevrolet launch it soon in India too.
