Yes, I'm sure they will take note of the fact that their lower spec interior "hard grey plastic" finish is preferred by you to their more upmarket "dimpled rubberised finish". ROTFL.

No wonder people like Suzuki get away with cheap plastics and interiors in our country and save their better finishes for smaller markets like Singapore.

Source: Hyundai follows MUL strategy with small car-Business of Brands-New@ET-News-The Economic Times

Hyundai is planning to launch a new small car, badged either Amica/Atos, which will be positioned between its flagship Santro Xing and its hatchback Hyundai Getz, according to car magazine TopGear.

This strategy — of having multiple cars in the same market segment at different price positioning — is typically Maruti Udyog.

Before the new hatchback is launched Santro’s price tag is likely to be slashed bringing it closer to that of the Maruti Alto while the Getz will continue to compete with the Maruti Swift. Amica is expected to take on competition from the other small cars from Maruti’s stables — Zen Estilo and Wagon R.

Sources confirm that this the car codenamed ‘Pa’ which is currently under wraps and slated for a launch either in the fourth quarter of 2007 or early next year. Though the exact specifications of the car are not yet available, the new Amica’s cabin space will match that in a Getz while its boot is likely to be bigger than that of a Santro. Fitted with a 1000 cc petrol engine the car will crank out 70 bhp. Also on the cards is a diesel version of the car with a 1.1 litre CRDi engine.

With so many diesel option, I think Hyundai has lost some ground as far as launching Getz diesel is concerned. It will be really difficult for Hyundai to match Maruti's aggressive pricing.

Hope Hyundai quickly settles the diesel options for each segment and launch them to take on competition head on.

Amica??? Yet another dumb name.... rhymes with "Eureka", which they may have blurted out when they thought of this ingenious name.

Amica is of Latin origin, and its meaning is "loved friend". May be that is how Amicable became a word in English

In the latest issue of Overdrive, they have talked about the launch of Hyundai Pa at a price point of 3.5 Lkhs. Would come in both pertol and diesel version. The Diesel would be a 1.1 CRDi

HMIL to launch the 1.5L diesel version of Getz in 2nd qtr!

Source : The Hindu : Business : Hyundai Motor to scale up investment

"During the press conference, Mr. Lheem said HMIL would come out with two new models every year. He also said that HMIL would launch the 1.5L diesel version of Getz in the domestic market sometime during the second quarter. To a question, he said HMIL was working on CNG version of Santro."

Today's morning news on CNBC did have a piece on Hyundai launching the new version of the Getz as well all know would be the Getz Prime and a new model positioned in between the Getz and the Santro. They also talked about the 1.5 ltr Diesel engine too.

Ironically Hyundai which had denied getting into the LCV segment has in todays news stated that they are looking at it and are considering to get a LCV to position against the TATA ACE.

The news piece was under the headline that TATA Motors moved to Second position dislodging Hyundai for the highest number of cars sold and to counter that they are planning to launch these models.

I guess it must be a couple of months more before we see these in the showrooms

I guess Hyundai is launching the Getz Prime (as its going to be called now) with a 1.1 engine to add a bit of "XING" to its profile. Saw it on CNBC TV18 and NDTV

The best part is both the current 1.3L and the 1.1L Getzes will coexist, contrary to our assumption that the 1.3L will be discontinued
