Both VW and Skoda (fabia) are known for making tall statements... have to wait and see what they really launch

The Passat pricing will be placed between the Camry and the C class, depending on the variants.

Good that VW is finally serious about launching the models in near future.

I think VW has lost a year or two to launch it's car in Indian market, which can be partly attributed controversial dealing (with AP government) of their former employee assigned for starting the Indian operation.

But as some members pointed, the positioning and pricing of their models will be critical to succeed in Indian market.

Default Volkswagen to launch a Polo variant in India

Volkswagen India is said to be working on plans to launch a variant of their Polo small car in the Indian market.

This car is going to be modified for Indian conditions and is expected to be launched sometime in 2009.

VW is targeting selling around a million units of this car in India over a period of seven years. Modest targets indeed.

Market sources added that the company is also setting up a vendor park in its factory in Chakan, Pune. Another unnamed source was quoted as saying: “They are modifying the car for local conditions such as bad roads, potholes, and that people use chauffeurs in even small cars.”

Nissan and Honda are two other major automakers which are working on plans to launch compact cars in the Indian market which is largely dominated by Maruti Suzuki products.

VW Polo Indian edition is likely to be made available in both Petrol and Diesel versions.

It will be interesting see the positioning the VW branded cars are going to have, given the positioning the corresponding Skoda branded cars are already occupying or are going to occupy. In my opinion, the Skoda brand which was used to test waters in India will act as the greatest bottleneck against VW in the Sub 15L segments.

The 17/June wheelocity (Zee Business) TV report mentioned that Passat would be priced somewhere around 17L. Don't know how/where they got this figure ? If launched at this price point it would be an excellent deal.

I saw a Passat on the Greater Noida Express Highway this morning. It was a test vehicle, silver in colour, with PASSAT DIESEL written in BLUE on its side doors.
Was the new generation Passat! Couldn't get any details or pics as I was on the other side of the highway and both the cars were cruising in opposite directions!

Surely the Passat is equivalent to the Octavia? I think they've both been around longer than the Laura.

Audi's equivalent is the A4, I think; the A3 being Audi's 'Golf'

Here's a member of the same group that nobody seems to mention, and I'd forgotten until the other day: SEAT.

Could be interesting in India
