Default Hyundai i30 - Hyundai's next model for India?

Hyundai is gunning for a share in the European C segment with it's latest model, the i30. Engines are unknown except that the car will be powered by 3 petrol and 3 diesel's with manual and automatic gearboxes. European sales start in summer 2007 as a 5 door hatchaback. Station wagon will follow soon. Doesn't look like this car will be launched in India though I really hope Hyundai gets it here. I really like the looks of this one. The rear tail lamps are sexy! It looks very spacious too. I wonder where Hyundai can position it in India?

I'm really surprised this thread hasn't got a single reply! News on the grapevine is that the i30 is heading to India in the not to distant future. If so, this will be the first Hyundai I would actually want to own!

I love the looks of the exterior and the interiors, and the engine options seem nice enough (though what makes it here is a different matter). Take a look at this link to get a closer look at Hyundai's latest baby.

One of the few things lacking in current Hyundai's were their looks, and it seems that's been taken care off with the i30. The Jap's better watch out!

Nice, though I'd be better convinced by some regular shots, not 'cool' pics.

No matter what Hyundai do, there's always the odd idiot who would 'rather walk than drive a Hyundai'. Considering their cars are among the best in India.

dont you think along with this segment, they should get higher end with the Azera in the 20+ L range, that might be good for them if they setup a plant for it rather than bringing CBU into the country..

Hyundai needs to a little more than they already are in india..

but this i30 is a nice looking car and should do very well there..

Have you seen the fate that the Terracan & the Sonanta Embera have suffered despite having good Diesel engines? I don't think they'll get any sales at all in that segment. For us Indians when spending that kind of money, the badge matters a LOT!

yes yes i agree, so if they were to make a plant which would take care of the Sonata, 1 SUV, Azzera(rather than brining all of them as imports), they might get a price advantage, but then again you are right, its becomes too expensive for a Hyundai..but i think if done right it could be done....

They already have a price advantage. The sonata embera CRDi is priced almost 2L lesser than the honda accord petrol.

Gotta love Hyundais new designs, and I am glad it is getting rid of the "quirky" design culture. The new Sonata, Elantra, Getz and the i30 have very clean lines.

If and when this does come to India, I hope Hyundai price it appropriately from the start itself. The initial high price is what killed the Getz. Its only after the negative initial response that Hyundai starts heavy discounting (Getz, Elantra, Sonata etc.)

Car looks neat. Now if they can only get the suspension setup right and plonk in that 1.5 (110bhp) VGT engine, that would make it one of hottest hatches in the country.

Positioning would be problem. I guess since its a Hyundai (not TATA) the real vehicle could be as good as it looks in the picture.

And isn't it high time some one made them? The only thing is whether, in India, Hyundai can. The Sonata and the Tuscon and the Terracan all kind of bombed. Which is a pity because not only are there people who would rather walk than buy a Hyundai, the bigger problem is that many feel H should be followed by an 'O' rather than a 'Y'.

Why oh why?
