Well put Ashish.

To me overrated is something which sells a lot but has shortfalls as a whole package. There are lots of really bad vehicles which dont sell well.

I could not think of 1 Indian car which has sold over market expectations and has negatives that outweigh the positives.

Most of the cars noted in this tread under OverRated are owned by TBhp boys and they would give you their list of reasons, why their vehicle is Not overrated.

Under Rated !! - in some kind of order.

1) Baleno (Top of the list reasons not required, right?)
2) Elantra
3) Petra/(Sienna)
4) Palio
5) Tuscon
6) Cedia
7) Octy Combi (RS and TDi)

ACtually I can give 2 words for OverRated:

Nothing against the Marque, I know that its a quality build etc etc.. however there are other marques which are available in India now Audi BMW. The only underrated Merc is the CLS. I dont have a clue why this merc does not sell. I almost rode into a auto when I passed one.

I feel all the cars in the indian market barring a few are overrated. I have no idea why people go ga-ga over the ohc( i do think its a good car). Its a very good car but no more than that. I think we Indians are just starved of the better cars here in India. A volvo s70 which I got in dubai for about 7-8 lakhs will probably sell for double or triple the price here. Only people with more than enough dough can buy such cars in India and thus go ga-ga over mediocre cars. If we have mustangs, maseratis, astons on our roads at reasonable prices I dont think people would even dare mention cars such as ohc, accents, corollas etc. These are cars which are used by salesmen and delivery boys abroad. Am not against anybody or any car its just that this post is written with frustration that I cant get my hands on machines like the shelby et al.

Underrated: Fiat Palio 1.6 GTX

Here is why: For approx 6L what we got was a world class rocker of a engine in a well built, spacious and good looking hatch!!
Its sad that Fiat cud never recover from Uno fiasco!

Also - Fiat Uno, Optra!, Matiz, Aveo (All very good cars for the price - barring Matiz - it really was a well engineered thing!)

In terms of asking price - Maruti Zen! (I admit - gr8 car, but so much premium!!)
Wagon R - Maruti's habit of cutting corners is so third world!! , SIlly tail lamps, inconsistent built quality and what not! ( Its only the Suzuki developed engines which are thier strengths!)
