Aside: The original Indian Astra was so well engineered, if you put the window on auto shut, and you put your hand/something in the way, it would sense the hand and retract. Tried this on this version, and now I can't type easily.
this comes as a shock!
i have been into one club the quality was not a problem infact it had more goodies than the SPFI (single point fuel injection) one (front fogs, onboard comp, moon roof etc)

i also don't know whats wrong with the person you mentioned. Optra is a good car too, there are many members among us who would agree with me. and also for FE don't forget it mostly depends on user (you can even make M800 give FE figures like 5-6kmpl a bit difficult but surely possible) besides Opel cars were never for FE lovers, but their main points are safety, comfort & thats where astra rocks!

also chances are the club model which you saw might have had its sensors out of work for the window (did u check it with all 4 windows? )

I adore OPEL ... I appreciate their engineering ... I admire their Rock Solid Safety feeling that ASTRA / CORSA provide ... especially when cornering at 130 kmph ...

I own an Astra AT and Corsa 1.4 ..
I had very good 5 years and 75000 kms in Corsa ... never had any major problems and spares were never a problem ...

Just saw this thread again...

Nothing wrong with the person, adya33. In fact, he's an old family friend, so I'd appreciate it if you didn't speak about him that way.

I don't think he so much cares about goodies like an on board computer, as much as about the original Astra qualities, comfort and quality. Both of which he finds missing on his second car.

The fact that it is his second car would indicate that he loved the Astra enough to buy another one. He does not want to buy the Optra for the same reason that you may not buy a Sipani or I may not buy a Fiat, because he distrusts the company after a single bad experience. I don't think it's a reflection on the car.

New Honda City is definitely over rated (poor performance, questionable safety- especially at high speeds, questionable fuel efficiency);

Baleno (oh, what a car!) is undoubtedly under-rated...

In a poll on t-bhp NHC FE was around 12-13. If that is an excellent FE then My wagonR betters that and my lancer is equivalently FE. NHC sucks. more than 50% here will shout if u ask" we need the old back."

baleno is not underrated according to me because it is too old now and due for replacement. with all respects it is still a great car but its old now.

wagonR is not underrated at all( I can vouch for this as an owner for more than 5 years now). The sales have picked up after the customers were satisfied.

Swift certainly is overrated and overhyped but still is a good car.

Default old Fiats

I think the most under-rated car in India is the good old Fiat 1100...Premier Padmini.
I drove one last time I was there... it was a blast... great italian voice, sweet gearbox, decent steering response... I'll be shopping for a perfect old Fiat sometime soon.
