While I buy both Overdrive and Autocar, i prefer Autocar. Besides for the features and stories, which I think are similar in style to each other, what I really like is that they have one page to tell what are the discounts available that month that is really good and useful for buyers and as well seeing what is the buying trend for a particular car.

If you want news and a way to keep track of new cars, then all mags are fine. But in my frank opinion, if you need advice on buying a new car/used car, better stick to Team-BHP or other forums, which have actual frank user opinions, which enable us to form a reasonable and fairly accurate expectation about the car. Can you expect fair and unbiased advice from mags:

1. who do not actually buy most of the cars they test and these cars are supplied by manufacturer with all other goodies (keep in mind how do you get favourable photos, coverage and reviews on Page 3 of newspaper supplements and you can get the point).
2. who peridocally can be found on a trip to Europe/Japan/other salubrious foreign locales (all expenses+other goodies paid) for a road test.
3. who nitpick about harshness, etc at 5000 rpm, when only a fool and a person who thinks climate change is a hoax would drive at anything beyond 2500-3000 rpm.
4. who have no technical advice to offer on various car technologies, etc.
5. who with some exceptions in some issues are preset about which car to recommend, and even get the FE wrong. Of course they need other cars to knock down.

Personally I have been in fairly regular touch with the head of GM-Mr. Chaba and Honda's GM Marketing-Mr. Sen, who are both from my management institute, and from what I have heard, awards and reviews can all be arranged.

IMHO, perhaps the way goodies and other benefits are exchanged for favourable comments are arranged make me think that mags name should be changed to: AutoHonda India, Honda India, What Honda India (replace car with Honda and you may get the mags name).

Overdrive's standard really fell when Mr Adil left and was replaced by the current, sleepy-looking editor (Yogendra Pratap is his name?) Unfortunately, the decline in standards isn't limited to the magazine's content quality. I had been a subscriber since 2004 and sometime in 2006, they simply stopped mailing my copy. I received my last 5-6 issues only after I had sent them reminders regarding non-receipt of the copy.

The subscription has now ended and I'm happy not to renew it.

Actually, I think its the other way. The magazine is a lot better to read now that Mr. I-ME-MYSELF Adil has shifted base.

Somehow, Overdrive seems to have lost the plot along the way. Not so much interesting now. I prefer BSM and AutocarIndia. Recently, i have also started a small affinity towards TopGear.

Anything from the Times group should be read for Masala, not news and information.
