CMV Rule 50 (2) [d] - The letters of the registration mark shall be in English and the figures shall be in Arabic numerals.

Funnily, many two wheelers in Bangalore that exhibit number plates in kannada are registered in other states. A smart attempt at avoiding having to pay local road taxes.

Ironically, the VLT % was determined after extensive research and experiments to ensure that the driver of the vehicle has sufficient visiblity of the surroundings - not for visibilty into the vehicle. That would explain the legality of having 5% VLT films on limousines . Incidentally, limousines are allowed to have 5% VLT films on the rear windscreen and all windows, except the windows of the first row of seats - the driver and co-driver seats. ORVMs are expected to be used for rear vision. The inside mirror is for talking to passengers, without having to turn back while driving. Come to think of it, how can fully loaded trucks use an inside mirror? They will have to rely only on the ORVMs, right?

As a protective mechanism, we have more pigmentation in our skins that protects us from harmful rays. This is a millennia of evolution. Do you think a few decades of using sun film will reverse a millennia of evolution?
I went to a dermatologist in Chennai, a few years ago, just to be reassured about a couple of moles. As per usual, she did an all-over check. I suggested that she should do the same for my wife, and she said: not necessary for an Indian person to have such a routine check up. Whilst I'm still a bit unsure about how dogmatic she was, I am sure she was right in principle. And I'm sure she knew her stuff, being a specialist, worked outside India as well as in, and all the usual medical consultant blah.

Unfortunately it is a very real risk for those of us with not-so-well-made skin. But I don't think I'll be petitioning the Supreme Court on that one!

Motorists in HSR have been targeted for the sunfilm ban. I saw them stopping a few cars near HSR club junction.

In Chennai, I see almost 90% or more cars still with their tints. I guess Chennai Traffic Police wants to fine the offenders in a continuous slow manner, which would ensure that they end up collecting huge moolah as fines. The latest I heard was that they have fined 71000 cars, which means they have managed to collect Rs. 71 Lakhs a fines. IMO, this is a very clever strategy.

I would have left my tints on, if I did not have to drive to Bangalore this weekend. Any updates from Bangalore? Any more extensions?

Definitely no more official extensions. While there is no concerted drive yet, individual cops have started catching cars with the very dark tints. I saw at least 5 cars pulled over yesterday (separately) when driving back home.

With non-KA plates, your chances of being pulled over are statistically higher!

RTO officers, and not just the traffic police, were monitoring and disciplining users of the road yesterday. Let me add that they were fully equipped. I wouldn't dare stand up to them. It's a shame that we choose to resist everything that comes from the law enforcement agencies.

If you meant those with deficiencies, then I'm with you. Although, the rest; those with "well made skin", can get by if they stuck to the right diet. I spend a good amount of time on the road, that can include driving and/or riding and walking in the sun for most of the day. Most of them, try to do the impossible, that is shy away from direct sunlight. Considering that we are required to soak in a bit of sunlight, its ok if you ask me.

Fewer than usual cops today on my normal route to work i.e.Shivanada Circle>seshadri Road>Lalbagh Road>Dairy Circle>Bannerghatta Road>Bilekahalli.

I didnt see any cops stopping any cars though I noticed a few trying to peep into my car to visually check.

Though, lesser than usual traffic

Didnt see anyone being pulled up on the Jakkasandra>Sony World> Domlur>EGL route, though short route it pass through all the major cop junctions. But interestingly while waiting at the 1st Block signal, I counted some 6 cars out of around 11 which were non-sunfilmed.

I guess its the weather which is cooling down the cops

Here in bangalore (ORR-Marathahalli-VTV), i saw tinted glass crawling in front of white-shirts. They couldn't be least bothered. No thunderbolts raining down, just yet.

I still see, 80% of the cars still have tints, and haven't seen any cops catching today morning. Looks like cops still haven't warmed up since its cloudy morning Mostly drive will start after peak hour.

I can confirm that Mumbai Police have taken a lenient (sensible?) route. Neither the Benz nor the Civic have been stopped for the sun film. I passed by several Cops on the weekend, but they didn't even bother to look. When I asked a Constable about the same, he said they are only catching cars with jet black tints (which they always did).

Whew, I'm really glad because I do NOT agree with the SC Judgement.

Delhi:

last 7 days, 4 offices, 9 malls, total 13 parkings.
I still see majority of the vehicles sporting films.

On the roads: Hardly any police checkings, both in off hours as well as peak.
