Volvo B7R high-roof sleeper - Team-BHP

Friends:

All the Volvo B7Rs we see in India have one body style.

Today I saw a high-roof body on the B7R chassis. It had a massive one-piece windshield and extra height glass all-around.
It was a so-called "sleeper" with a two-tier arrangement.

IMHO, this sleeper is a purely desi phenomenon! What do you think?

This is pretty close to a sleeper, looks wise. Never been in one, so I cannot comment on the layout:

I prefer sleepers if the trip is an overnighter. I still can't sleep sitting up, with the guy sitting next to me sticking his elbow into my ribs

I to love to travel in a sleeper only travel once few years ago on a school trip and had fun

but the sleeper i traveled in was a locally made on a tata bus if i remember correctly

Two tier arrangement is pretty much the norm with sleepers / sleeper-seater combo's.

Ram, why do you feel this is a taller version ? Looking at this pic and comparing with photos of other Volvo buses, they look pretty much of the same height. In the absence of measurements, I am trying to compare heights in different sections - wheels, wheel-arch to belt-line, B-L to lower edge of window, and window to roof.

The one different factor is the angular section at the front top edge. Were you able to make out who built this one ? The styling is different - this one lacks the flow that we have seen Volvo's to have. And has Volvo decided to allow a change in design/styling for the body ? Or did some one take a truck chassis and build a bus on that ?

It also doesnt make sense to increase height, and hence CG, for the same two-tier layout as before.

Yup this is not a taller version.Actually Paulo tours uses this bus on the bangalore-goa Route.

I've been in one,..its the same size.

2-floored sitting longer-haul Volvos are common in some Asean countries. This one is either an after-market effort - and its execution looks good ; or Volvo India has entered the Volvo customizing space recently

Sorry to sound pessimistic, but what protection sleeping passengers will have in case of an accident?

Same protection you have when you sit on the reclining seats.
Volvos dont come with seatbelts.Actualy nothing having more than 4 wheels comes with seatbelts.

Hey its clearly seen that this is a high roof sleeper bus. Just look.

I don't think that this is a taller version. Now just compare these Volvos,the high-roof sleeper and the normal.

Binz, I have found seat-belts on All seats in a sleeper-seater combo bus recently. First time I noticed it. Didnt see/remember who built the bus body. It was not a Volvo either.

I guess seat belts are not present in buses abroad also. I dont remember noticing seat belts in those Greyhonds and national expresses.
