Default Maruti takes on Honda with its new Grand Vitara

India Earnings >> Maruti Udyog >> News & Company Overview

Excerpts:

It first launched the Vitara in 2003 but sold a paltry 380 cars. Compare that to the Honda CRV which has sold more than 7,400 units since its launch in the same year. Even the Hyundai Tuscon has sold 1,626 units since its launch in 2005. Maruti hopes the new two-litre Vitara, priced between Rs 14 to16 lakhs, will bring home the numbers.

just saw at NDTV Profit, Maruti prices the GV at Rs. 13.8 lacs -14.8 lacs(MT ,Auto ,i guess)
I personally feel thats a very good pricing considering its a CBU . Kudos to maruti .

I think it is very good and affordable price for diesel SUV and I feel not for petrol. But since it is a CBU, Maruthi can only do this much.

Any idea about diesel? Do they plan to bring diesel varient in future? If not, I don't see petrol to fetch large volumes. After all Suzuki is not a Honda.

The site is up..

Specs put the engine performance to be 119bhp! Someone seems to have throlled down the performance..Drum brakes in the rear. .Some price cutting measures have been done..

These prices are ex showroom, New Delhi. Isn't Mumbai ex showroom prices a bit more expensive than Delhi ?

Look at the ex-showroom prices in Delhi for both

Vitara

MT : 13.8 L, AT : 14.8 L

CRV

MT : 17.8 L, AT : 18.5L

The price differential of 4L is significant to ding CRV sales however the crucial part is to understand how loaded is Vitara (on features vis a vis CRV)? Can't wait to TD it.

I dont know about anything else, but at an initial glance....Maruti has done an "SX4" on the CRV!!

But only 120 bhp + 170NM of torque on a supposed SUV? In comparison the CRV has almost 160BHP and 218 NM of torque. The power to weight of the Vitara is 75BHP / ton while the CRV is a long-ahead 104 BHP / ton. The CRV is longer, wider and lighter while the Vitara is taller.

Download the brochure from the website and it will give all the features - fairly well loaded - no leather seats (pictures dont look like it is) mentioned in the specs. Otherwise pretty much comparable to the CRV (except for the performance & snob value).

A 2.0 petrol Suzuki engine putting out 119.5bhp @ 5500RPM. Now what is wrong about this statement? The engine has been detuned for Indian market? Possibly yes. But, by how much?
