Sure! If you check out the discussions on the forum about these two "elusive" launches around this time last year, you'll get a feeling of deja vu because we thought the same thing - Diwali/Dusherra/Christmas....alas, didn't happen

Why am I not surprised, should have checked the older thread on their launches , its becoming even worse than the stock market speculations.

But cant blame them, they still have to learn a lot of things in the product development and management.

Hey I read that article too in the Fin Exp. It was dated 21st June 07, and since its so recent that means something may well be brewing in the M&M camp.

HSV

Lets hope so, I have been hearing/reading abt it for last 1 year now. I dont understand one thing, why do these guys go public with these kind of announcments, doesnt it affect their sales. I for one am pretty sure that I will not buy the current Scorpio knowing that a new one is going to be out pretty soon.

Ditto... I'd be of the same opinion too.

Yes it is. It's an automotive standard. Available on most "processor based chips" designed to be used inside automobiles.

some additional information on eagle..( apprently available on scorpio yahoo group and shared by a friend who is a member there ) .one of the members saw th eeagle and these are his impressions.

" BUT WE GOT TO SEE THE EAGLE IN FLESH AND BLOOD [ok, in metal and oil]
!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!

awesome is the only word that comes to mind.

when mr subroto drove into the service center, we wondered how his car was
so free of noise. and since noise from the vehicle was one of the major
issues here, the service guy was told that THAT was how we'd like our car
to be silent! he remarked oh that can't happen, that's the eagle! the
service dept had a prototype which they were testing. the purr of the
engine was the sweetest thing i've heard yet!

there is a huge pool of saliva around that car even now as four of us
stood around it.

for one, externally it doesn't really look different from the scorpio w.
the air scoop is different however and i guess that's the only
differentiating feature at first glance. gone is the water collection tray
in front of your existing faux scoops- it's bigger and fully functional!
the person was telling us the engine is capable of 150-160bhp, but
they'llprobably calibrate it to a lesser value.

this was just a prototype, so i guess it would undergo some modifications,
but this is what we saw!

disappointments list as :
the aircon vents are carried from the scorpio w, and in my opinion they
are quite bad in directing the flow.
the seats look pretty much the same, i was hoping for a more ergonomic and
plush seating.
nothing done about the water splashing issue either. bumper is the same.
interiors pretty much taken from the 'w'. nothing to write home about.
NOW FOR THE NEW ADDITIONS :
it's equipped with 2 reverse parking sensors with the display inside the
rearview mirror.
there is also a light and rain sensor on the windshield right behind the
rearview for automatic headlights and wiper function!
the steering wheel comes with an array of 6 or 8 buttons for operating the
music system and maybe other things. the horn pad woefully stays the same.
there is a digital display on the dashboard indicating the tyre pressures
and engine temperatures, etc.
on the whole quite a few thought ful features... and if television reports
and harry's backdoor channels are to be believed... if the price hovers
around current levels, it would be a winner from the word go!

before signing off, lemme' repeat the engine noise is addictive.. after
the crde, i felt my car noise was a little less refined, after hearing the
eagle today, i feel that my car is outright louddd! "

Things to note; the eagle is likely to be slotted in similar / marginally high price bands, with the current crde getting cheaper !!

EDA - September / october

Disclaimer: Information shared in good faith here. I cant guarantee the accuracy or lack of it with actual proposed product / launch. Take it with as much salt as you want.

Nice work there w12,that's a whole load of info about the eagle scorpio.

However with respect to the air vents would have loved roof mounted ac, the present mechanism is inadequate for the third row passenger.

Looks like it's more a telematics and remote safety monitoring thing. Tata's must plan to make money out of a 'service' for engine monitoring, since there are so many things that can go wrong, even without an accident. They can notify the nearest service station to have their sleevers rolled up when you get close.

Hmm... that's a tad disappointing. I like the current scorp but a change would have been welcome

They are poor. I do wish they change the routing to overhead vents for all rear seats as well.

The present scorpio is already wider than it needs to be, wider than it should be for Indian Roads. Given the interior width available, they could have done some cool stuff with the doors, like pop-up bottle/cup holders.

The automatic headlights is fine, but at what speed does the wiper start? I wish the government makes it mandatory to install a headlight dipper when the oncoming vehicle comes with dipped lights.

Wow, I wonder how they sense tyre pressure. For the rest, it looks like they are putting the onboard computer to good use. I hope it returns FE figures as well.

Well I do know that Mahindra is currently running test mules with around 140bhp being produced & aimed for from that engine.

I know this for sure because somebody I know was infront of me offered the engine & platform from M&M themselves to make a one-off vehicle. The power etc. were also discussed since the mods being discussed were pretty extensive.

Can't reveal any more than that.

Guys any news if the suspension and chassis will be altered? The Scorpio was toppling with the old 110bhp engine itself, now the 140bhp is a sure coffin on wheels. I have seen enough Scorpios turtled on the high roads now i am very freaked to even consider buying the new variant.

A honest opinion to all flocks who are interested in going for the eagle variant, do lot of research on the chassis and suspension alteration before buying it. Otherwise your *** is grass or lets say tar mac.

I am very angry that Mahindra would put my life in danger to earn some money, is Anands money worth more than your life, i bet it is.

Quite a few questions on CAN, I thought to write back, I know that I know
CAN is "Controller Area Network". As the name suggests its a network of ECU (Electronic Control Units). Here all important information is exchanged/shared between the ECU's in a specific format (Avoid redundant sensors for the other ECU's). This format may/maynot change between two vehicles of the same manufacturer. But there is nothing universal about the Format of information exchange.

Swift too has CAN in vehicle.

Please feel free to ask

Actually CAN BUS is not just used in Automobiles. Due to resistance to noise, its also used in industrial applications
Now thats the physical part.
for the data link layer you can look up ISO standard 11898-1. This was done in 2003 to facilitate more open exchange. Having a common standard ensures easy development of third party applications and products. It also pulls down the development costs as the economies of scale pull down prices.
For those familiar with HDL programming, you can get a full source code from here
