Well, i hope they have tapped the current trends and had included all happening things like Power Windows, Power Sterring, ABS, Milage in their Metal CAN.

Some auto mag had carried out a test/first drive of a Premier[Mitsubishi i guess] van. Looks exactly like the Omni. Was a maroon colored vehicle. Mag was Auto India i guess.

Looked very much similar to this :

Check out Overdrive May issue which covered the Premier story in a snapshot. It has pics of the van. The car though is a very big mystery.

The plant is right at the outskirts of the main city of Pune. Honestly, i don't see much of a market for the van and the car could pretty much head the way like its predecessors, 118NE, Padmini and 309 unless the price is right, quality is good and is worth even calling a car in the first place.

If I am right, it is a taiwanese cast off from an old Japanese van built in Taiwant. The 118NE was a spanish cast off of the former Fiat 124 - boy these guys are really at the bottom of the food chain

ohh shoot... i got excited when i read the topic. i thought maybe they were reviving the Padmini brand, a few touches to the design, an MPFI engine, and a few tweaks to the chassis, suspension and brakes and it would be an absolute stonker. so much for dreaming, looks like i got too much free time on my hands.

i remember now, a maroon coloured van made a mysterious appearance in one of the mags. frankly i didn't thing it had build quality to measure up to any of the cars around, and personally i preferred the voyager to it. but then never heard another word about the car. ahh well, knowing the mindset of the majority of indian consumers, this car will do pretty alright.

This statement says it all. After being whupped hard by modern products and management styles of competitors, it seems that the Premier Doshis still have a lot to learn. I saw a picture of this van in either the OD or the Autocar, and IT SUCKS!! The entire front end seemed to be from the Maruti van, I can bet you that the engine is a modded 137D, gearbox will be the 118NE 4 speed....even the wheel caps were from the Premier Padmini S1!!

Its a disaster even before hitting the showrooms. No-one is going to buy this piece of crap in a "Shining" India. They are having a tough time signing up dealers, even in rural India, for their new van.

Premier stated that they are looking to export this van to Pakistan as they see some good potential there. That to me, is the only silver lining of this story.

The 118ne's was the slickest gear shift i have ever seen. And for its time, it was the best thing available here. Didnt these cars come with nissan engines? A friend of mine had one. very comfy car. I would still go for one if the thing didnt rust like its going out of style.

The ride quality of 118NE was really good. I don't think anything else was good in the car.
