The Rosenbauer Panther CA-5 six-wheel-drive vehicle was designed by "Spirit Design" of Vienna, Austria.

It meets standards and safety requirements necessary to cope with Airbus A380 accidents.

Here are interior shots of the Rosenbauer Panther.

Features
* Wide door openings with opening angle of 90 degrees for rapid ingress and egress of the crew
* Optional solenoid-operated swiveling doors, which close and lock automatically on reaching 5 km/h.
* LCS (Logic control system) facilitates single person operation.
* 24V electrics for chassis and fully implemented CAN bus tech.
* Fully computer-automated operation of all emergency functions.
* Pistol grip and/or Joystick controlled jetting operation for precise aiming of the fire extinguishing agents.

By 31st March 2008, Rosenbauer will supply a total of 29 Rosenbauer Panther 6x6 vehicles to India for Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore and Trivandrum airports.

Forgot to mention, they cost € 8,43,750 a piece.
That's Rs. 4.70 crores each.
So the order of 29 vehicles is worth Rs. 136 crore!

You guys are cribbing about the price of an airport crash tender -- a very specialized piece of equipment.

Won't it take specialized equipment to rescue whatever is possible out of a burning Airbus A380.

The A380 is both, as long as and as wide as a football field.
It carries 550 passengers, weighs 569 tons when fully loaded.
While on the ground, the top of the fuselage is 3½ storeys tall
and the top of the tail-fin is 8 storeys tall.

Heat from aircraft fires can result in searing temperatures exceeding 1,000 degrees Celsius.

OT: The A380 costs Rs. 1,250 crore a piece.
Kingfisher has ordered five of them (totally valued at Rs. 6,250 crore) which will be delivered in 2010. By comparision, the six-lane Mumbai Pune Expressway, all 93 km of it including five tunnels, cost our exchequer Rs. 1,630 crore.

One slightly unrelated observation: Have you noticed that driver seating in most AL buses and trucks are slightly offset to the right? I think this must come from the factory itself since irrespective of body builder, this is the position i have seen. It has to be lesson 1 in 'ergonomic disasters'. Can anyone throw some light on this?

Whats wrong with OUR country having some specialised fire-fighting equipment?
Im sure it would make sense if U were rescued by it.

I have seen these guys on road from chennai port, first i thought its some imported truck or a Volvo, but to my surprise it was a TATA. Looked great though.

no pics the bus was too fast
