Good to hear that, however looks like the rules need to be tightened. A person seated at the rear on this would be subjected to the vagaries of our smooth roads.

My view is that: It is not enough to merely wish there were rules in India regulating overhangs. Please tell me what is the rule, and in which document? And who is the enforcement authority?

If my information is correct, the overhang cannot exceed 50% of the wheel base.

Isn't 50% is too big for comfort. Pls re-check.

Is there any thing that specifies the limits w.r.t over-all length ?

ARAI makes all those rules... and in homolgaton of vehicles.. ( yes it is required even for models produced in india) they make sure that it is enforced. it is quite common to extract the maximum out of the rules so that the load/passenger carrying capacity is maximised. after all most of the state buses are not used for maxmum comfort, they are used for carrying max no of people, that is the market requirement in india.

an example is AL's vestibule buses and there is still market for that.

and evry auto maker takes indian rules eriously, if one car wa not passing the regulations the company can be shut down

Might be a bit OT :
We have an office Traveller, which had done an astonishing (for me) 8,35,000+ kilometers when the odo had stopped working. And it was still holding up pretty okay.

Gregorios Sachinides, a Greek taxi driver purchased a second-hand 1976 "/8" Mercedes 240D car in Germany in 1981. It already 2,20,000 km on the odometer.

He drove it back to Thessaloniki in Macedonia, Greece.
The car worked 24 hours a day as a taxi for 23 years until July 2004.
By then it had recycled three tired Mercedes engines eleven times!

Finally he wrote a letter to Prof. Jürgen Hubbert, director on the board of DaimlerChrysler AG, thanking him for the car's years of excellent service.

In Sep. 2004, Mr. Sachinides donated his 28-year-old taxi with 45,89,000 km to the Mercedes Museum in Stutgart! In exchange, DaimlerChrysler Hellas(Greece) gave him a brand new, showroom fresh C200 CDI.

Seeing quite a few of these mini school buses in Blore city nowadays. It appears like M&M has just expanded the scope of the CRDe engine into it's CV's, which is a good sign.
The only other manufacturer (that i know of, yet), to use common-rail technology in CV's currently being Volvo, hope the common-rail fever spreads, and we get to see more capable and 'clean'er mass transport solutions from other manufacturers too.

Anyway introducing 4921 ( I think that must be the name..... not sure) from Ashok Leyland.. with the NewGen Cabin

The vehicles with NewGen cabin are avalable as an option , for those who didn't know. (ref AL website)

But the army still buys the gypsy, and will continue doing so. Thats one vehicle which never breaks down, and has the agility of a mountain goat.

We have had vehicles that have run 2 million + miles, and closing in on the 3 mark, and still going strong.

Would be a tractor-trailer model. Only the tractor/cabin is facing the photographer.
