So an Israeli design with an anaemic GMC Petrol engine and a Ssangyong diesel that is licensed from Mercedes Benz with an MB transmission becomes Mahindra's answer to the Humvee?

I wonder if M&M makes the badge or is that made by a 3rd party vendor too?

HOW?

the one petrol version with GM engine comes with GM transmission.

Ssangyong diesel (derived from MB diesel) comes with MB transmission.

Both are 5-Speed Auto.

The Ssangyong MB licensed engines are very good engines. A neighbour had a Ssangyong Korrando which had a great 2.9 diesel engine (5 cyclinder). It was refined and sounded super smooth (that is the engine, the car was nothing special). Ssangyong use a MB (sourced) T-tronic automatic gearbox which may be the one they use on the AXE.

I guess the Indian Gov does not want to highlight its contact with the Israeli design team for obvious reasons. We have a large Muslim population here, so over hyping the Israeli influence means inviting trouble from the left(communist) and the Muslim parties.

Mahindra definitely manufactures the badge and there are 2 great differences between the Israeli and Indian versions :-
1)one is LHD and the other is RHD
2)the headlights are different (obviously the original version has set of 3 cool small headlights on both sides...while the Indian one has only one big round headlight on both sides..)

Israel is a long term strategic and military ally of India for a long time and most of the advanced weapoary and equipments used by the Indian Special Forces are of Israeli make(uzi's,mp5,night vision systems,etc...)

Note:accidentally made double posts

Got to see the AXE on Car & Bike show on NDTV.. looks very agressive from the front, but side profile and aesthetic/design can be improved, imo. There was one version with the Bolero side doors, not good! A primary all terrian vehicle for military use should have re-inforced doors.. Also, think it needs a bit of length to balance the width of the vehicle... Good job M&M

Autocar 8th Anniversary Special (September Issue) has a Scoop Test of Mahindra Axe.

Autocar's verdict is 9/10 and says 'The Axe is so well balanced, it handles and drives like a rally car at speed'.

Off topic - DVD that came with this issue is worth watching. The Veyron doing 277mph is just awesome.

Just saw the Car & Bike show on NDTV - this baby looks amazing - just like the H2 - I wonder what it will look like with clothes on.

Come on M&M - give this baby to us - price it around 10 - 12, the Endeavour market is all yrs then

Haha - Wishful thinking !!!

The engine is sourced from an Isreli firm and Mahindra doesn't have any plans to develop its own engine according this report on Business Line.

Did anyone notice the specs quoted say that the rear uses larger discs than the front? And that this thing has 3 channel ABS?

MP5s are made only by H&K. Israel is selling India Tavors and Galils, and the Rajendra already has the Green Pine system in it.
