Ford launches new variants of Ikon

Ford India on Wednesday launched a new line of its mid-size 'Ikon' model adding two new variants 'LXi' and 'EXi' and improved versions of the existing 'ZXi' and 'Flair' as part of efforts to increase market share.

"With Ford Ikon sales growing by 50 per cent over last year and the Ford India plant moving onto a second production shift, we are in a position to offer an all new line-up of the Ikon. The new line-up will propel us to lead in the high growth mid-size segment," company managing director David Friedman said in New Delhi.

The company is also moving to a second production shift for the Ikon at its manufacturing unit near Chennai to support the growing volumes and for the new variants, he said.

Prices for the new variants start at Rs 449,000 for the 'LXi' model to Rs 659,000 for the new 'ZXi' model.

Increasing number of people are upgrading from small cars to mid-size cars and the new line-up offers them an opportunity to shift to the higher segment, Ford India vice-president, (marketing), Vinay Piparsania, said.

Engine
A choice of two engines. 1.6 L Rocam Petrol that generates 92PS @ 5500 rpm and 130 NM of torque @ 2500 rpm or 1.8 L Endura DE Diesel engine that generates 59 PS @ 4800 rpm and 108 NM of torque @ 4800 rpm.

Both the engines have computer controlled engine management system - EEC V - for improved power and fuel efficiency. The Sequential Electronic Fuel Injection (SEFI) on the 1.6 Rocam plays a vital role in emission control by injecting metered quantities into the inlet tract for each cylinder at the optimum point in the combustion cycle.


14" wheels with imported wheel covers
Bigger wheels and wider tyres for pin sharp handling and exceptional balance.

Fog lamps
Round high intensity fog lamps, which have been integrated into the bumper. Highly effective during adverse weather conditions.

Engine

Air-conditioning
The Ikon's air-conditioning system operates with environment friendly refrigerant R134A with no chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). The air-conditioning system is integrated with the ventilation system and heater - optimal for India's extreme climate. The Ikon is the only car in its segment with a dedicated AC vent for its rear seat passengers.

Central locking
Central locking is offered as standard across all the variants and can be operated using the key on either of the front doors. The remote locking fuel filler cap is connected to the central locking on all the series.

looks like ford launched its old lineup - pre nxt era - again with the clxi getting a new engine

hi guys coming from ford showroom, sxi is stopped
the base versin is not pwer steering non power windows for 5.10 on road in hyd
after that the nxt, the the 1.6 and 1.8 exis(basically the old zxi) then the 1.6 and 1.8 zxi(basically the old sxi)

they forgot to mention rain sensing wipers....thats what I read in today's full page ad in the TOI.

Correction!!! Intelligent wipers was mentioned in the ad. I dont know why, but I am dead sure its not a rain sensing wiper system.

Too many versions....
But wat i think personally.. that the looks of the Ikon have been improved much over the years becauz of addition of those Crystal Clear lamps, non coloured frosted sideindicators.. nice colours...the old one used to look bad.
Infact the oldest ones had only one reverse light!!!

I've a feeling that they mean to say that the winshield is sprayed with water first and then the wipers start working. Like in so many other cars.

no the base version the clxi doesnt thave the power steering and power windows, it's on road price in hyd is rs 5.10 lacs, then the flair at 5.35 lacs (approx) with power steering and windows
but the version that i would buy would be the new exi 1.6 (old zxi!) at 6.23 lacs!!!!!! and jazz it up like hell!
or the new zxi (old sxi) at 6.89 lacs!!!!!!


looks like ford's trying thier level best to give the performance of the old city at an affordable price!!!
