Well according to the recent AutoCar survey in which Palio was declared the choice of car in this segment... what some of you might have noticed is the fact that even though WagonR is Boxy in shape.. cornering is relatively safer compared to santro.. Also in terms of "ride quality" .. (read comfortable).. it was judged better than Santro...
Of course on of the biggest drawbacks of WagonR is the unsupportive rear seats... but a very felxible set of front seats makes up for it...

,
if *comfort and economy is taken, then obviously the indica diesel wins.the indica petrol is a no.
if its performance ,FE ,then the wagon r wins.
but if u look at overall performance ,its the santro that wins despite its ugly looks.

Overall, Palio wins the Race, but since it is not mentioned in the poll , I will consider the other three.

Santro:
for overall refinement , looks good
rear comfortable than the WagonR
FE just one point low than WagonR
slightly unstable at 110+ , but how often an average Indian does this ?

WagonR
bigger space than Santro
pathetic gear shift
Manual steering not as smooth as the Santro
rear seat is big but not comfy.

Indica:
loads of space
engine not so refined
acceleration faster than wagonR and Santro
new indica looks good if not best IMO
typical tata gearshift
FE : quite low 8 with city AC driving
But what many ppl dont know is its a full 25K cheaper than the Santro, which easily compensates for the poor FE it gives.

Indica, is not faster than WagonR.. as per AutocarIndia figures.
Santro's steering .. better than WagonR... !!!!!!!!! *( Oh Are you talking about.. non-power?) then I might agree.... but otherwise.... nope

WagonR's rear seat not so good?... agreed. but Santro's Rear suspension is non-existent.. it jumps all the way.
...
.. this topic... *whenever starts.... never ends.

Had an oppertunity to get a ride in friends Santro Xing Xp....
get inside the car, and you are greeted by supportive but hard seats.. (not comfy for long drives i guess)... then comes the positioning of the pedals...quite different from WagonR... and the power steering.. definitely not as smooth as WagonR's.... rear having slightly better legroom than WagonR.... dashboard not as huge as WagonR's.... acceleration.. 0-20 ok in first gear.. but 0-40 in second and the engine starts crying....gear shift much better than WagonR... C&D pillers better also...external noise a little more than in WagonR... ac not as quick to cool as wagonR
all in all... the car is very similar to WagonR.. but the Suzuki gets my vote...

I wouldnt call the Santro Xing ugly by any chance.
Maybe the older santros can be called ugly.
IMO , XING looks better than wagonR at least.

I would think that they voted for the Indica diesel, and not the petrol. It wasnt mentioned in the poll, and they do compete in the same price category.

yes...
WagonR the ultimate winner...

but talking about Indica Petrols... why is that they are seen rarely on roads...
and i have virtually seen no Pre v2 indica on road for a long time now...(both petrol and diesel..)..
whats the reasons.. do these Indicas have short life span or what...

To put it simply, they are pathetic. The engine block is exactly the same between the diesel and the petrol. It is damn unrefined and not too fuel-efficient either.

If people think of the Indica, they think diesel. If a small petrol car is on the list...then theres the Palio, Santro, Maruti stable etc. These petrol engines are light years ahead of the Indicas
