The boxy looks suggest a modular construction.
The upcoming "world truck" from Tata looks very similar to this. Stile Bertone of Italy has done the designing and styling.

Next month's (December,2007) Overdrive (bought in this month!) states that SCANIA has officially entered india. That means these trucks should be a common sight now. Wow!

I wonder if that beast could go thru the small roads to the actual delivery centres.

any idea on the size of the engine and the power it puts out?

oh come on, you are talking as if tata trucks are exactly half the size
these trucks are ment to be used within some routes and india has plenty of such places which are ment for such vehicles, maybe on outskirts of the city or some industrial estate where there is plenty of space for trucks larger than this one

the main point we should think about is what engine options does it have

cause i believe these expensive trucks like volvo, mercedes and scania can only do well if they have a specific application or some heavy tranpotation jobs as in these cases there is no compitision from local players

they certainly cant sell trucks of same capacity as tatas or ALLs
cause afterall truck buyers are commercial entities
and i dont see why they would bare the loss of owning these when the job can be done by tata however its a different case if its an application tatas ans ALL's cannot handle

just like volvo buses were very very popular untill recently as there was nobody else who sold a bus that could satisfy the function of volvo but when the kinglong and lexia came in volvo had to give away its marketshare

Agreed! it is defintely for specialised application? does that mean, they are not coming with a smaller version of the monster?

well i dont think so
and even if they do come with smaller options it might not prove to be a right move from their side

cause not only they wil be priced unreasonble but also their service station will be less than that of volvo since volvo has been in india for such a long time
and you wont believe it many volvo owners still feel that volvos services are inadequete and unsatisfactory as their number is still far less than what is required .so... you can imagine how tough it is too use these trucks

and also using an imported comercial vehicle is not like using an imported car
as a truck has to work for day and night continously throughout the year on rough surfaces and also bear the truck drivers treatment
unlike the car which is handled very delicately

so you see the maintanance requied a alot and continous
but its
1>very expensive
2>difficult as genuine service station are not nearby
3>parts are availale but not that easily
4>parts are expensive to replace and since not availabe easily the trucks have to remain non funtional for a longer time affection the business
5> since the trucks are expensive commercially some times they are not viable as they have to keep in mind the depreciation of the trucks and also the interests they have to pay

a local truck works continously and incase there is any problem it can be fixed on the way in some ordinary mechanic worshop unlike these imported beauties
hence to sum it all up compared to the local trucks these imported trucks turn out to be very inconvinient to uses andexpenses make it non viable and impractical

and also why would a businessman care for his truck drivers confort?

unless a task is dependent on these vehicles there is no point in opting for these
