Correct. Although they don't show it in the brochure the current TL models (not the commercial one) come with a canvas soft top and seats in the truck bed at the back.

It means that Tata now manufactures Xenon both in 3.0 (for SA) and 2.2 (launched in Thailand) variants!

I wonder how it will perfomr in Thailand especially since Thailand is Pick-up truck country as the competition in the Pick up truck market is extremely high.

No luck with any firm date, yet. Current TCIC engine( 90 bhp) seems to be an outdated one compared to the CRDe motor of Getaway.

It has passing( RTO approval) of 11 passengers and is available only in yellow plates. I am also keen on buying one , if it is offered in 4*4 with passing of 7 or more passenger in yellow plate with a better motor.

I cant understand why the RTO has such an issue of letting ppl allowing it to register as pvt vehicles ... but yeah, Im hoping that it comes with 4x4 and it comes soon or else Ill have to look at som eother option :-( !!!

Not available in Maharashtra for pvt registration. Even on Tata Motors Website, it is put under Trucks( light) category.

only posting that as the Xenon was unveiled here a year ago in the International Motor Show in Barcelona, here in Spain, since beginning of the year is available in a very good prices for a pick up with the 2.2 Dicor engine (140cv) and 4x2 and 4x4 configuration.
It seems that it is start to sell fairly well in a market that, as in Europe, is going badly this year.

didnt find it in the Tatamotors site- however the TL 4x4 is available in the light trucks site! The TL4x4 can be registered as a private vehicle (have seen one myself! )

If it,s the TCIC engine your talking about the telcoline...than it has White plate passing all over India as it is homologated by TATA as people carrier and not goods carrier... you are confusing it with the 207 DI.
You can have the Telcoline in yellow plate though but you have to ask for it.. say if you are going to use it as a vehicle to carry people for Hotels or something like that , there is an advantage of tax reduction than.

Confirmed it with the Local dealer , on the phone.Also Tried to find about the launch [have been doing it every month since last dec]. They said may be around October....but that MAY BE is sitll there...

The version called the Tata TL can be private registered (white plates) I have seen many in Karnataka, TN, Kerala. See details in the following link:

Yes Sir. I dont know why its not available. The dealer Bafna Motors bluntly refused for pvt registration and also the nos. I contacted given at the website. Incidentally none of the landlines are working now as the phone nos. have changed. But yes, I reached someone on the cell phone nos. given on the website. Bafna Motors guys directed me to Fortune cars who again said - no its not available for pvt regsitration.

May be then another option I have is that I register it in Goa or Chennai in case, its available for Pvt regn there as Dinar and Madan have put it.

Also regarding the tech specs on their website- you may visit Tata Motors 4x4 - TL - Technical Specifications ( its a TCIC engine that does duty in Safari - old version).

I have again spoken at their helpline number and waiting for a call back. Lets see if I am lucky today.

I am sure that they are confusing it with the 207 DI , or may be the engine is not BS3 compliant so it can not be registered in Mumbai, but out of Munciple limits of mumbai like thane will be possible to register as private..... Just my guise , conform it though...

I my self wanted to buy a pickup and had been to a Tata outlet in Pune- Bhandari auto.
I enquired about TL .They have 4 variants -Crewcab 4x2 and 4x4 and tL pick up 4x2 and 4x4.
The crew cabs can be registered in white but not the pickup.
Price -TL crewcab 4x2-6.31 on road
TL pickup 4x4-6.50 on road pune
