Ravi, I never knew you were looking for an SS80.
Was the SS80 still available in 1986? I think the model was changed towards the end of 1985.

There is a green SS80 nearby. Hardly in use since 4 years. Left to rust and die. The bloke to which it belongs to has fixed bumpers from current 800.

Nice thread. We still have our SS80 DX and once a week it is taken out. When it was new the build quality was just fantastic. The air-conditioning, music system was brilliant and could do long highway runs with a full load at relative ease.its now approaching 1.5 lakhs on the odo.

Guys,

Finally started with restoration of my 1984 January Maruti 800 (SS80). Has been with the family since January 1984 and has been used and driven within the family and treated like a prized possession.

Done 1.6 Lac Kms on the Odo and still going strong, needed some serious attention from a collectors point of view.

The car is still used by my MOM to travel to her workplace daily and has a monthly mileage of 500 kms approx.

Vehicle Details:
Model- Suzuki SS80 Std.
Colour- Apple Red
Year of Manufacture- 1983
Ownership- Single

Have identified the following tasks.

1. Engine Overhaul (had done 1.67 Lac Kms without an overhaul.)
Though the engine was not burning oil and the FE was still 16+ kms/ litre, decided to go in for an Overhaul as want to put in an Air Con unit in it.

2. Electricals and Lighting-
a) Retapping of wiring in the engine bay and inside cabin, attending to loose ends. (Surprisingly, one may still find some TOKAIDENSO bulbs functional since last 25 years).
b) Repair of Wiper Motor. (Can someone also guide me on how the wiper motor and arms or New Model can be retrofitted in the SS80 with slight modifications.
c) New Wiper Blades (Can someone suggest me if any compatible Bosch Wipers are available in the market).
d) New Tail Lights.
e) New Parking and Indicator Lights.

3. Braking System Overhaul-
a) Replacement of Front Discs and Brake Pads.
b) Change of Barke Fluid.
c) Grinding of Rear Brake Drums and other necessary job required.

3. Suspension Overhaul- (was done almost 10K Kms back. but will still be reattended)
a) Front Ball Joints, Tie Rods and Bushes to be checked and replaced if found dysfunctional.
b) Front Shocker Plate Replacement.
c) Rear Shockers, Leaf Spring and Bushed to be checked and replaced if found dsyfunctional.

3. Fitting of AIRCON Unit-
Need to get an Air Conditioning Unit with back condensor retrofitted in my SS80 as my mother finds it extremely difficult to commute in the summer months in Delhi.

Need help from the TEAM-BHP forum to guide me to a vendor/ workshop where the retrofittment can be done properly. Also need support from everyone on the aspects that I should seriously consider while fitting the Air Conditioning Unit like make of Compressor, Cooling Coil, Condensor.

Also need guidance that should I upgrade the blower unit and radiator fan motor to make the Air Conditioning Unit more effective.

4. Bodywork-
a) Attention to Rusting in door corners. (No rusting on rocker panels and floor boards)
b) Realignment and Dent beating to match bodylines.
c) Dent beating of sagging bumper ends.
d) Scrapping off of old paint completely.
e) New Primer and Paint (DUPONT). (Will take guidance from EDMUND as he has done a fab job on his car)

5. Interiors Refurbishment-

a) Full re-bucketing of Seats with foaming.
b) New Upholstery.
c) New Door Panels.
d) New Roof Lining.
e) New Carpetting with Dynamat for sound insulation.
f) New Floor Mats.
h) Upgradation of ICE.
i) New Sun Control Film.

Have Sourced the following already for my car:
1. New Rear Tail Lights (Make- Alpha Toyo)
2. Engine Mounts/ Torque Rods.

Need to source the following (Urgent Help Required)
1. Front Shocker Mounts.
2. New Front Grille.
3. New Silver Lining for front Windscreen.
4. New Silver Lining for Gutter Channels.
5. New Window Beadings.
6. New Door Panels.

The vehicle is already in a workshop in Delhi where the items 1 to 3 are being attended to. Should be over with these tasks by this weekend.

Seriously need help on the Item No. 4, ie retrofittment of Air Con Unit.

Also if people could guide from where I could source the parts and trims of the vehicle in Delhi.

Hoping for comments and suggestions.
Thanks.

Nice to see you have chalked out your list of "Things to do" prior to the restore. Thanks for putting it here, am sure it would be useful to any one restoring their cars.

Also, please post pictures of your car before the restore. Your car has been with your family for 25 years and hence this restoration deserves to be documented by starting a new thread. So please start a new thread ASAP.

Regarding the AC, do you plan to get an AC unit from another scrapped SS80 or are you planning to get a new one. Also, PAVAN_KADAM should be able to give you some tips as he mentioned to me that his mechanic\electrician fitted an a/c in another ss80 recently.
