I had this beauty myself. Used it for 16yrs(>200K Kms) before selling in 2000.

Still see it sometimes on Delhi roads in the same neat state I sold it in.

Man, I want to buy my old car back, have so many memories attached to it.

So 90% chance is that you would come across a car that has undergone major repairs to the engine as well as body. In such a case do check for the quality of work. If a cute retro runaround is what you want then this is the best buy.

But if you are looking for one in concourse shape, my advice is to get old of a original single owner car that has run relatively less. The CAX car on the previous post is an excellent candidate. May be you would have to shell out a premium for it. But trust me, its worth it.
Suresh I plan to use this for daily use the primary reasons being high mileage, low maintenance and aptness for city driving. Also I have a limited budget. I tried for the car mentioned in the previous post but it was sold :( But luckily I have a new seller and the car is exactly what I want but I am yet to cofirm the rates( which I fear will be way beyond my budget ) but nevertheless I will try for it.
Btw the car is posted in this forum and thank you for your input.

Hi All,

Update on my SS80. Thanks to a very courteous Fellow BHPian, with a skill to pull up NOS parts from thin air, have got a set of Original SS80 Mud flaps. Thank You Sir, once again.

The SS80 is getting dearer and dearer. There used to be 2 parked near my neighbourhood Auto Consultant, now they are not there. Even the parts are getting dearer it seems and more difficult to find.

One question - does it make more sense to go for a later generation MARUTI 800. Parts are aplenty and if you look after your call well from now on, it might turn up to be the next SS80 by the time you retire! And if worst comes to worst, can give you a cushy retirement if sold.

If you are looking for any model of M800, then try the 5-speed version. It's so much fun to drive. And do check if the car has brake boosters.

Thanks,
Jose.

BTW Is this is the same beauty posted by EARTHed.
The car definitely is the one posted by EARThed. The three body dents/ marks are similar and the roof carrier mounting is at the identical spots.

A beauty of an SS80 but not DX

I shall be using this thread for info sometime in the near future. I have 84'SS80 lying gathering rust at home. It needs a total body + engine overhaul. We don't feel like selling it as it holds not much value and its also got about 20 years of memories attached with it!

I plan to restore my 84'SS80 someday when I have the cash to spare.

This is through a friends mechanic who called me on the phone, so no photos as of yet, he knew i was looking for an old car, so i think he thought the ss80 was old enough.
I spoke to him and told him i would go over to see it. can anyone post pictures or link me to pics with the original trim like what ajay has specified above?
