High Security Number Plates - Team-BHP

I am seeing a lot of the High Security Plates around now. The web site of Kerala DMV says they are mandatory, but I don't think it is enforced.

How is the system works? Is there a scheme of approving sources? Or vendors just produce them. Who controls the holograms? Does DMV issue them?

Does anyone know?

Also, is there a vendor in Cochin who makes them? I like the "official look" of the plates, and would like to have one. The couple of accessory shops I asked had no clue.

I dont know about Kerala but they arenot mandatory here yet.

A cheaper alternative for security is to etch the cars number on all windows.

Was planning on getting the etching done on my car when I get it back from the body shop. Anyone knows where I can get it done in Bangalore?

Nothing fancy. Your regn number is etched with acid on all the glasses of the car. It will be too expensive for a potential thief to replace all the glasses. Meant to act as a deterant for theft. It is hardly noticeable and you need to look for it. I guess it will be something like font size 24 or 36.

Etching can be done by any accesory shop, even dealer do it, they charge around 500 bucks.

etching was done on my car windows by the service station on the 1st service. costed 150 Rs. Maybe you can contact your A.S.S center

No, no. Both are different, High security number plates are the ones which are not easy to remove and etching is etching the car registration number on all the glasses of the car.
