the seemingly large headlamp unit can most likely be attributed to the fact that the indicator/flasher within the headlamp assembly itself serves for the side view too (there's no additional indicator over the fender). i might be wrong though

Default Tata to offer four engine options on new Indica

Looks like New Indica will have both 1.3 MJD from FIAT as well as their own 1.4 DICOR. The details are as below:

Tata to offer four engine options on new Indica
The Economic Times January 15, 2008

Homegrown auto major Tata Motors on Tuesday said its new Indica, due for a launch in the second quarter of next fiscal, will sport four engine options, two of which will be sourced from partner Fiat.

The company would roll out two variants of the new Indica fitted with Fiat's popular 1.3 multijet diesel engine and its 1.2 litre petrol engine, besides the indigenously developed 1.4 litre DICOR diesel engine and 1.2 litre petrol engine.

"The new Indica would sport Fiat's multijet diesel and also its 1.2 litre petrol engine. The price for the Indica sporting Fiat's multijet engine is still being worked out," Tata Motors Senior General Manager (Engg Systems) S Ravishankar told PTI at the 9th Auto Expo.

The new engine for Indica and Palio would be made at the new Tata-Fiat joint venture plant in Ranjangaon, Maharashtra. The new Indica would be offered at a higher price than the present range.

Fiat has also rolled out a diesel variant of its hatchback Palio Stile fitted with 1.3 litre multijet. The company also has tie-up with India's biggest automobile company Suzuki India to produce the same diesel engine for the car maker.

MSI uses the engine in the diesel variant of its popular premium hatchback Swift.

Default New Indica to have 4 engine options

Tata to offer four engine options on new Indica

Tata are going to offer 4 engines (2 from Fiat and 2 from their own stable) on the new Indica.

From Fiat they are sourcing the famed 1.3 MFD and 1.2 FIRE engine and these will complete their line up along with the indigeniously developed .14 DICOR and 1.2 XETA engines.

Since Tata have mentioned that the V2 range will exist with the New Indica, we are going to have a huge number of variants in the Indica model.

Existing range
-------------
1.2 Xeta (GL, GLE, GLS, GLG)
1.4 Xeta (GLX)
1.4 Indica V2 (DLE, DLS)
1.4 Indica Turbo (DLS, DLG, DLX)

5 petrol variants and 5 diesel variants

New range
----------
1.2 New Indica Xeta (Tata engine)
1.2 New Indica Xeta (Fiat engine)
1.4 New Indica Dicor
1.3 MJD New Indica

6 petrol variants and 6 diesel variants (I've assumed they will introduce 3 variants with each engine option in the new indica range).

So that will be 22! variants in Indica hatchback family. I believe that is a lot, hopefully they will stop producing some variants in the old Indica range when the new one hits the market.

This is effectively covering every price point from 2.5L to 5-5.5L. Wonder how they are going to market Palio with these.

Even I observed that and immediately checked fiat-india.com but there is no updation of Palio 1.3 MJD. It may be a typo error or may be it means that the variant is launched. The content on TATA website is from Economic Times and they may not have validated it before putting it on their website.

If Indica itself gonna have so many variants how they will manage to sell Palio right in the same dealership... Even today Palio gets a bad treatment.. If a dealer is getting better margin for Indica than Palio why would he be interested selling Palio ?

There are indicators in the ornamental plastic on the fender, just in front of the sideview mirror, at the bottom of the A pillar.

Got a chance to check the new Indica. Interiors is much better than majority of the competition. Lots of space and good seats... I am above six... Had good space all around. Can't help but think that this is gonna be a winner... It has covered majority of the faults of their first project...
