I agree with GTO on this one. The fact that the Qualis outsells the Sumo, inspite of it being anywhere between 50k to a lakh more expensive than the latter, goes to show that taxi drivers look at more than just the Cost Price before deciding.

The Qualis was a reliable vehicle that had few maintenance issues, a good engine and better build quality, alongwith good fuel efficiency. Expect Private Taxi owners to lap-up the Innova in the same manner if Toyota does launch a no-frills Innova.

Talking of taxi operators... we have one in faridabad.. who doesnt keep any diesel cars like qualis/indica/amby etc. instead, he the fleet consists entirely of Maruti Altos....
now thats some intelligent thinking.. because i think Altos costing almost a lakh less than even Indica and giving fuel efficiency of about 15 is not a bad proposition.... clever idea i think...

the other aspect is that people will view a used qualis/ sumo with suspicion, unlike an Alto

It'd be a shame if the Innova was used exclusively as a taxi!

Only question I need to answer before I buy an Innova would be, do i want to buy a vehicle which is used by all taxi drivers.... (not that i plan to buy one ;-) )

how many people buy qualis/ sumo/ tavera instead of a car?

scorpio people buy, but taxis dont....

maybe toyota is trying to crack the market like Ford is with Fusion and Hyundai is with Getz

There is nothing wrong in buying a vehicle also used by taxi drivers, especially if you think that vehicle suits you.

Remember the days, of amby, fiat and Mahindra Jeeps.. Even Taxi Drivers used to drive them. Now its the Omni for intracity transport and Sumo, Qualis for long distance travels. Nothing wrong with that, the taxi drivers will always look for a VFM proposition. Its a Bread & Butter question for them. If you don't want a commonly used vehicle in India, go buy a merc..

Why do we have to see if our car is being used as a Taxi? Its wat suits us, we buy. Tell me one car which isnt used as a Taxi? even Mercedes are used. So this is not an applicable point for not buying a certain car. If a car is capable, it is capable. Be it in any avtaar

I guess the point rahulmd is trying to make is "Do you want to own a vehicle which is not really a status symbol". Being used as Taxi, just an example how people view a particular car.

i think it will be priced higher than the qualis and the Fortuner will not cost less than 14L.

if they price Inova at same price as Qualis that shows Toyota was cheating the people all this while by charging more that what is appropriate for the Qualis.

innova to be in showrooms by 25th and i suppose you can check it out earlier by arouind 5 days but only if you already booked one or are good at pressureisintg them
i saw the corolla 5 - 10 days before it was launched.. sort of a sneak preview.
price is expected to be 8 - 12 laks so im guessing that the fortuner will be for 13l+
