I think the current iteration of the BOLERO is the best so far. It reflects in the 8,000 sales that the Vehicle notches up month-on-month. I think MAHINDRA is not bothered about the looks so long as it has a queue for BOLEROs from the Government

BTW the people who think its (Thar) the same old willys design from 1941 should be sent back to school or to a Crash Course to learn about automotive design & its development.

EDIT: please note that above comment is not meant for bhpian shankar.balan.
Cant send them to a Crash Course, cause the Thar does not come with AIR BAGS and Pedestrian Safe frontal crash...and it has a steel bumper!

jokes apart, yes Thar is totally different from Willys of 1941, but comes from its heritage!

ahoy
the Thar may not be with that Willys design etc
But it really falls short of the Jeep Wrangler abroad - that Jeep has been so well addressed and appointed that one doesnt feel like one has come down to the 1980's in 2011!
thar is expensive for what it offers there is no doubt about that. and while it is as tough as nails etc, it would not be my own choice of daily drive.

Any design change will attract some more customers to the family. This one is good one all arround IMO.The digital speedo would have looked better if the backlight would have been light blue or white since they have gone for it.They need to really think of the panel gaps and the quality of the products now.Thar is also an example for that.

Where is the competition - Mahindra has exclusivity in the Bolero segment, Sumo is gone, the Sumo Grand stands nowhere near it.

Who can challenge the Bolero or Scorpio for that matter.

Toyota has the RAV 4, but if it comes to India it will be priced more like 14 to 15 Lakhs, Toyota also had Landcruiser 70 in SWB and LWB versions, which fitted with a 3 Litre Diesel or a 2.7 Litre Diesel can take on the Scorpio in the 11 to 14 Lakhs segment.

The Landcruiser 90 ( Prado ) soft top version SWB is the ideal substitue for the difficult to get or discontinued Gypsy, also Toyota owned Diahatshu Rocky.

Isuzu Trooper lower versions could compete, maybe Landrover Country defender but Mahindra technology today is superior to Landrover ( not counting Range Rover ).

Clearly Bolero and Scorpio are unique vehicles in their category, if Hyundai prices Santa Fe or Terracam in the Scorpio category then there could be some competition, GM have a chance with Daewoo Rexton, Lada Niva very old technology, wonder what is going on in Turkey.

The Chinese can compete in this segment with some derivatives they have, in fact besides Great Wall and Deer they have some company that makes replicas of Prado ( LC 90 NG ) and Landcruiser 100, saw it in Sharjah 3 to 4 years ago.

no one can challenge these chaps as of now.
which is why they arent doing much by way of developing and improving these for the consumer and packing in more value.
All they are doing is the cosmetic changes and constantly revising prices.
bad show for us consumers.

Hi Guys

Can anyone give an engine comparison between the one in the ZLX and the VLX with pros/cons as well.

Any news if the VLX with the 97bhp engine will be discontinued ? Because thats the one to own, i guess.

Waiting for your responses.

These are some of the new snaps received from Mahindra dealer.

All area looks good except driver console, looks like super Mario 80s game display.

Price has not been announced yet looks like we need to wait till 9th Sep for official launch.

Till then enjoy these pics.

Some facts it looks like it has same engine that produces 75 Bhp in Scorpio Ex or tweaked DI engine that was part of SLX Bolero.

At last could upload them here via Firefox, IE 9 error bugged me till i saw FAQs related to this issue here.

I must say that the pictures are looking nice and not as ugly as when we saw the first live ones. But yes the dashboard is a bit tacky.

I for one am also very sad to see the Storm being phased out.

P.S: @Spitfire, don't get too happy. Its a generic dashboard which will come on the THAR as well :P

P.P.S: Maxxis tyres, are you serious ?

The first two photos in #580 have slightly different headlamps - first one has clear turn indicators and the second one has yellow turn indicators.

Also surprised that the refresh is being done without any buildup :-).

4WD would definitely be nice to have.
