My option would be an SX4 simply because of Maruti (over FORD).

I would go for a Fun-to-drive car like Fiesta, and now it has all the Safety features too!

Fiesta anytime, anyday for me. I just hope and pray they get the 1.6 TDCi to India soon. I am planning an upgrade in the 7-9 lakh range later in the year. But if it isn't coming, I'd pick up a petrol with my eyes closed although a decently priced and feature-rich Fiat Linea could change this plan.

So if price / Features is the consideration then Verna XXi wins.
We are talking petrol versions here:

Fiesta

For: Handling, fun factor, newly added features.
Against: A.S.S, Re-sale value.

Verna

For: Decent A.S.S, Good all round car.
Against: No great strengths.

SX4

For: Newest among lot, 5 star A.S.S, features, Re-sale value.
Against: Fuel efficiency not that great?

I prefer the low conservative looks of the Fiesta to the tallish SX4. To drive on the limit, I'd place my card on the Ford too. Buttttttttttttttttttttttttt where the Ford really loses out is interior space. Its just too darn small for that segment!

Seeing the title of thread I dont understand why INDIGO is not into the picture. If anything is value for money in C segment is has to be TATA Indigo. Mind you, It still look very fresh and goodlooking.
SX4 comes second best in VFM.
Sometime i think comparing FIESTA with SX4 is like Swift Vs Getz. Swift wins the heart but getz is spacious.

For me peace of mind is very important, when i spend my hard earned money, i would go for the SX4.

Indigo is a notch below than SX4 and Fiesta. It compares favourably to Ikon, accent and the likes

As per ACI survey Jan 2008-
Ford fusion diesel tops the price list, while fiesta diesel is not too far behind. But interestingly, Honda city is more expensive than fiesta diesel!

Hyundai Verna petrol has cheap spares, while SX4 costs just a bit more than verna petrol.

SX4 is a big car compared to Fiesta, its nearly as fun to drive and its a Maruti. I would prefer SX4, the only thing to dislike about it is the integration of the boot, how I wish Maruti would sell the hatchback version in India.

A Hyundai or a Maruti.

This new variant of Fiesta is the nth after it was launched.

About Fiesta, so its a hoot to drive and hence I am ok with its FE. Can anyone guarantee me that it will be on sale after 3 years? or that the parts will be cheaper once I finish the warranty?

I think it will be on sale after 3 years all the Ford products are still on sale for more than 3 years barring the Ford Escort(how many years was it present for sale?) as regarding the spare parts is it that costly than other cars in its segment that we may need to cross verify

Without a doubt, its the Fiesta for me over the SX4. Since i already own a Ford, i can be very open when i say that my after-sales experiences have been really good so far. I guess the factor bugging most people is that this is not consistent across all Ford dealers.

For all the good words we harp about Maruti after-sales service, we do hear a lot on the forum about people complaining. But we are kind enough to overlook that.

Not that i have anything against Maruti products, in fact i am almost on the verge of buying a Maruti for my parents use.

I believe the resale value of the Fiesta in the market is not poor. Dont believe me? Take a look at the compilation on our forum home page itself about the Fiesta.

If the Fiesta also has the ABS, airbags etc and is price-wise comparitive/cheaper w.r.t. the SX4, then it should be a serious contender for anyone looking at a car in that range.

Ofcourse FE could be a differentiator, but then we also don't have enough clear data about the SX4's FE figures also. Look-wise, I prefer the Fiesta.

And to be able to continue driving your car day-in-and-day-out, A.S.S. happens to be very crucial. If you have to wait for months for a spare to come in, your car will just stay day-in-and-day-out in the garage.

And its not just for cars. For any product, we would look at A.S.S. availability.

I think you would be able to answer your question yourself, if you think back in time as to what made you opt for the Maruti, 6 years ago.
