Agree with you. They have kept their focus on, in the past and IMO will do the same now also.
Discontinuing the earlier versions, will help in concentrating the efforts on the new model, plus will not clutter the buyers mind.

Further more, cannibalism of the existing model , as in case of Santro v/s i10 will not happen.

Pricing may be in the current vtec bracket. With steel and other input costs going up that anyway is expected.

The real question is when they are launching G3HC and what will be the wait period (what kind of inventories they will build up before launch). Hope they don't go maruti way on this.

The 1.3 ivec might have price increase compared to current idsi model. Why? becase
it will have ABS + airbags needed because of the power of ~100 bhp comapred to 75 of idsi.

Only time will tell the answer.

FYI, the iVtec 1.3 if Honda planned to use it with the new city, it would have anything between 85 - 90 bhp.

The 1.3 engine is expected to have power rating reduced by 10% from its original 100bhp.
This is due to lower octane rating and quality of fuel available in India.
Both, the 1.5 and 1.3 are expected to have their power rating reduced by around 10%.

1.5 ivtec is expected to be 105 bhp ( 115-10%) and 1.3 will be around 85 bhp ( 95-10%)

They might use the same 1.3 engine, currently used in Civiv Hybrid, in which case it will be 94 BHP

Honda's price point will go up even more if they offer VTEC on the base engine for the G3 City. If they are smart they will keep the i-dsi from G2 going and offer the VTEC as an option but they are never known to do anything special for India.

Buddy its quite obvious that i-dsi will be discontinued. There s no point discussing on the I-dsi. Honda is mostly gonna plonk the 1.3vtec & 1.5vtec in the city.

Correction....this is the Gen4 Honda City. There was the one launched way back in 1997 followed by one in 2003 and again one in the last quarter of 2005. Hence, this is the Generation 4 version of the car.

Nope, a facelift doesn't make for a new generation. The platform of the '05 is the same as that of the '03.

This is, indeed, the 3rd gen Honda City in India.

To add to what GTO has said, the 03 model was a sheetmetal refresh and is called Type2 (as in Gen1Type2) in the automotive community. In the Gen2 there was another sheetmetal refresh (3Q05?) which Honda themselves designated as the City ZX. (Gen2-ZX)
