You can welcome the Scorpio AT into the (nearly) sub ten lac auto club too

Question Automatic Transmission Sub 5 Lac

Hi

I have to buy an AT car for my sister in sub 5Lac category by end of year 2008.

Are i10 & Santro GLS the only options available in market?

I red quite good reviews on i10. However, I find it a bit overpriced.

How is the Auto box of GLS?

Akhil

Santro and i10 auto gearboxes seem to be the same to me and these are the only sub 5L options available in the market.

Hi Akhil (cowboy45),

I have owned a Santro At for the last 2 years. Great car - really nice and smooth.

Go for it. I have heard that the i10 is good as well but not got any firsthand owner reports.

I probably own the oldest Santro Xing AT in the forum, from the July 2003 vintage. Still doing great, the odometer somewhere in 30Ks and mainly used by my wife.

i10 Kappa comes with 1.2L engine mated with AT, good option if you don't want the outdated Santro.

Upwards of 13 lakhs, stretch a bit say upto the Laura or the jetta, the DSG autobox is awesome, the upshift is faster than my manualshifts. In fact autocar road test fig. tell dsg laura is faster to 100 than its m/t variant!!! Easily the best autobox i have used, In fact it shift up fractionally faster than my 5 series!!! downshift is just a touch slow. and am sure the all new 7 speed DSG 2 from the VW group would have fixed this little problem.

Realistically its a nice thing to have an AT, especially in Bangalore with all its stop go traffic.

Mileage is less by a 1-1.5 kms from the manual.

I bought my wife a Santro AT last year - works well, no issues. The i10 auto and the Santro AT use the same auto box - in that department they are no different. However, if I had to choose today, I'd go for the i10.

I second that. It's great car for city driving.

But I feel power is less when I put on A/C. I guess it's nothing to do with AT.

This sure increases the comfort level with small car/Santro/i10 automatics. I presume the FE would be low, but acceptable given the capital cost. The next AT is double the price.

Default AT is the future

Having driven a Civic-AT for 30K in 1.5 years, with twenty visits to Ooty ghat-roads, my opinion is: Awesome. I will never go back to manuals ever again in my life.

Today's AT are very advanced and at some point in the future manuals will become extinct like the Dodo bird .

AT is the future.

As many others on the forum have recently discovered, used Honda City A/ts rock! You shouldn't have too much trouble finding an OHC Auto or an NHC CVT in Delhi. And a well-maintained Honda will last you forever. Almost.

OHC had a automatic gear option. I did not knew about it. If it had one, then you will be able to get one for a decent bargain, but still I think it will be difficult to find one available and up for sale and also in good condition.

I think the new Honda City would be a good option in automatic transmission. In case of a small car Hyundai i10 will be perfect.
