Cheating at HP pumps

I had a very bad experience with HP pumps over the past few days. First one was at the pump on MG road just before the brigade road signal. I asked them to fill up diesel for 500 RS. the guy filled up for 100 and said he thought i said 100 (does five hundred sound the same as hundred???)

anyway i said no its for 500 and he went on to fill up for the remaining. he stopped at 12.xx and said i have filled up for 400 now. i paid him 500 and came back. i normally reset the trip meter everytime an my car goes on for approx 230 km if i put diesel for 500 RS. but to my horror the low fuel lamp started glowing at 175!!!

so this time again i went to another HP pump on airport road. just before golden enclave... i was all the time thinking how come the mileage went down so much. this time i was having a look at the meter. he put fuel for 100 RS (3.xx lires) replaced the hose. when i said no put for 500 he took the hose and started filling it up. the lever which has to be switched to reset teh meter was not done. he continued from 3.xx till it reached 12.xx and said now 400 RS previously 100RS.

i asked for the bill the cashier gaveme a bill for 16 litres. i said how come you put only 12 litres then. the pump attendant said no i reset the metre and did it. i said no you did not.

And the surprising part!!! the cashier immediately gave 100 RS back!!!!



is there some way we can take it up to HP? i am sure they cheat a good many people this way.

can some one tell me how to put up a complaint with HP? can we do something thru team-bhp?

meanwhile watch out for these two pumps.

Another pump on airport road, it comes after the manipal hospital going away from aiport, is like that too. I once got cheated on my bike there. So never used to take my car there. God knows what quality of fuel these guys have.
I am regularly fill up at the koramangal BPCL pump. Its a company owned one. So i hope things are more proper there.

I always fill up from HP neapensea road branch .
I have never faced any problems and am quite happy but whenever i fill it, i always fill it to the brim and i make sure he never puts it back.
But i will be a bit more cautious now when it comes to dealing with them.

Well, after having some bad experience, I also avoid HP pumps. I have found that most HP pumps operators are of the thuggish mentality.

I fill up at IOC, although I do remember IOC pump also trying to cheat me the first time I went there.

There are ways of cutting corners for Petrol pumps (HP,IOC, BPCL irrespective of company).

1. Either they do not reset the meter after filling up previous vehicle. Continue from same point. Especially true when you are in biker's line. Someone fills up Rs 20 in his moped, and the pump operator cleverly continues from there to fill up Rs`100/- that you asked for.

2. Cheat on quantity. I know at least 3 petrol pumps in Pune (personal experience with 2 of them), where they cheat on quantity. Fiat service manager told me that his friends wife bought 1.5 Ltr Petrol in a plastic bottle. Now, interesting part is that, it was a 1.2 Ltr bottle

3. Another interesting story. My friend watched it recently. He will waiting in line with his bike. The biker in front of him, asked for 1 Ltr petrol to be filled up. Operator put in Rs 10.00 petrol, the meter was showing both price as well as quantity. Before the bike owner realized, operator claimed that he filled 1 Ltr. and reset the meter. Poor biker did not even understand how he got conned.

4. Cheat on quality: Adulterated petrol.

So beware and choose your petrol pump carefully.

I Fill regularly at the HP Company owned pump in CV Raman Nagar and generally no problems (I normally fill in full tank, so just need to ensure that he resets to zero and I do not allow them to start without showing me the zero - no matter how familiar they are).

Although once, they filled in full tank and forgot (??) to take down the reading and charged me abt 200 bucks more on the credit card ( I was kind of aware of the general amt filled in). When i pointed it out, they quickly gave me 200 rs back in cash!!

It doesnt matter where your filling or how much - need to make sure you see the Zero before the attendant starts and the amt after he fully fills in. It sounds pretty obvious, but before I started doing this conciously, I used to get cheated on a regular basis in a lot of bunks...

Had a similar problem with one of the IOC pumps in delhi on the palam airport road before the turn to the national highway, and its supposed to be a COMPANY OWNED & OPERATED pump, they had some real duping schemes going on there with not resetting of the meter from previous car's fillup specially 100rs ones and continue on ur car from the same without u knowing, or even heard of cases where they had empty plastic bottles just below ur fuel tank cap (invisible to the driver) where they would fill up a little instead of ur tank. caught them red handed once for not resetting the meter had a major argument and i went off without paying the rest 400bucks!

wonder how much he filled coz there was a tourist vehicle in front of me and those guys always put in a good quantity

I fill up at BP pump in front of IBM office on Bannerghatta road. Their petrol is supposedly good, but they have tried cheating once. The usual stop in the middle and continue again business. I said full tank, but they stopped at 26 lts. Then I said no, I want full tank. Then he put four more when it got full. I wanted the bill, which came to 34 litres. The billing guy told it was 30 & 4 more. I said no, it was 26 and 4 more. There was no more argument, the moment he saw me fighting back, he conceded it to be 30 lt.

Never sit in driver's seat while fueling up. Get down, lock the car and stand next to the fuel pump with a hawkish look. Then they don't try their usual tricks.

Here's the latest story ... a lady came with her Fiat Palio 1.6 GTX claiming she gets an FE of only 6kmpl... my friend who works there was dumb struck as she told him that she has bills for all the fillings done for the past month... he checked out the bills and burst out laughing... guess why.???
The lady carried bills for 65 litres of fuel filled everytime for the past month when her car has a fuel tank of just 45 litres.... she later on told him that it was her driver gets the fuel tank topped up... I was just wondering how careless can people be...!!! I suspect the driver must be an ex petrol pump operator...!!

my friends in the car always ask me - y i go out and stand next to the attendant when filling petrol - and i always explain still they cant get what im saying ! stupid #$@@#

Even at the Nerul IOC pump a shocking incident happened.. a Sardar came to fuel up and told him to fill full tank.. the Pump guy filled and gave him a bill saying they had filled 90 litres of diesel and then the sardar caught him as the truck had maximum capacity of 80 litres. finally they left the truck guy with free diesel..
