The 1.4 TSI (which makes 170 bhp) won't make it to India because its high 10:1 compression ratio (for a turbocharged engine) demands a minimum of 95-octane petrol, which isn't freely available in India.
Source: ACI July'08
This explains why the 1.4 TSI could not be made available in India.

They did borrow the 1.9 PD engine from Skoda, then why couldn't they borrow the 1.8 TPi?

Their current engine line-up shows that their target buyer is not the 'driver' but the rear passenger. One, who doesn't count the number of horses a car makes but the luxury it offers.

I know what you mean, but the Jetta Ad on TV doesn't entirely suggest that though.

Well in some of the articles I had read, the expectation was that the car would be priced around 11Lakhs. With the price now being around 13L, I guess it seems to be a bit overpriced. But with the way the automobile industry is heating up in India, I guess most folks will not find this price to be a problem.

My only concern here is to see if it hurts the Skoda cars in this range. This I guess only time will tell.

what's the specs on that 1.9 diesel? Is it the same engine as the laura?

Any feature spec list available yet? I hope the comfortline comes standard with DSG

So, the DSG version is cheaper than the DSG Laura by good 1.5 lacks or so...

That's one hell of a gearbox and by deferring the decision on laura last year, I saved quite an amount, I believe (in terms of depreciation + this 1.5L discount in the form of DSg Jetta).

This is my opinion but Laura is better looking than the jetta and i have seen it up close so i dont think it is worth in the price range

Jesal, have a look at the pictures posted by Cyrus and the video by JKDas. No parking sensors seen on the car front or back. The VW guy in the video also mentions it is the top end comfort line.
