for your information i would that only fifty cars (fiat 500) would be launched in INDIA. out of which, around 18 have already been booked by INDIAN customers.

same is the story for Bravo, which would be priced around 18 Lakhs - thanko the import duties.

i heard there were 200 of the fiat 500s being launched - whether its 50 or 200, its a really small number to change their branding in any way - you'd hardly see 1-2 per major city. And if its 15 lacs for the diesel engine (and not the petrol 100bhp), I guess we can expect 50 fuel price conscious jokers to buy it maybe they should launch an lpg variant

I agree with Jassi to the T. Not sure what Fiat will achieve with 200 numbers in India. Certainly not the way to go about building brand/image. Also, 2 door hatch back ( only one till now in India - Zen Carbon black) bombed like anything even when Zen was a extremely popular model. Also given the price range, it won't do any good for Fiat.

Guys, How about buying some 10 to 12 of 4 DOOR TATA Nanos instead of only one TWO DOOR TATA FIAT 500?

Not much different from a 12-lakh Safari being serviced at TASS, among your proverbial sea of Indicabs, is it?

(Tata is capable of servicing vehicles above Rs 10 lakhs. Ask Suman and his service experience at Dhingra Gurgaon.)

Agreed. But Safari is their own product (TATA). Its not about the capability. Its about a fiat car, that looks smaller than the indica but costs more about the safari.

And knowing TASS and specific experience at Dhingra, I would be weary of sending any car to them let alone a limited edition one. Suman was the only reason why I did not get lost at Dhingra/

Please don't compare other cars with the 500.The 500 is world's one of the most beautiful cars and there is a huge fan club for this product mainly because of its looks and image.,irrespective of it being sold on a premium across the world.

the fiat 500 looks really nice in europe, alongside the old fiat 500, they create a symphony of sorts, something the new mini hasn't been able to acheive. it is also a popular car in italy, got to sit in one, and I loved the dials, which are all around one circle, it looks so much better than the VW beetle at that point.

Wink

exactly no ones comparing the 500 to the nano - 500 compares to the mini and if they launch a rev happy sporty hottie of a car like the 500 in only the diesel variant its a shame. I bet the mini would do better than the 500 when launched with its sporty petrol engine. I dont' know why they chose not to launch the 500 with the 1.4 ltr petrol 100bhp variant. I mean any mods (like on the abarth 500) have to happen on a petrol, theres very few options on the diesel (maybe petes)
Lets just wait till 18th and see what they launch and in how many numbers - I am sure there are plenty of takers for a petrol 12 lac hot hatch as a status symbol, but if its diesel, then fine they can sell 50 of them to some fools and be done with it

I saw Fiat 500, during its India discovery trip. Me and friend were standing next to it, believe it or not engine was running but we could not even hear it until we touched the bonet. It was a multijet diesel engine. I even saw 4 people went and sat inside it with easy of comfort, they were close to 6 ft. So even though it looks small from outside, it has good inside space.

I have attached few snaps of it.

UTVi -- the autocar show had a coverage on Fiat 500 this evening and the car looked cute.

@simplysoopercar - where are the pics or is it just your profile pic. no ones questioning the refinement of the multijet, its the pointlessness of not including the 1.4 ltr 100bhp petrol for a niche 12lac sporty hatch

@nemo - did utvi talk about pricing and engine options

its not like they have to sell all 50/200 cars. they are simply importing them. AND if need/demand arises they may import some more. Also when its not a mass production car, may be we should not expect that it will available from every next-door tata showroom. Probably fiat will "launch" it in every city. it may be offered only in one showroom per city. maybe only in few major cities. lets wait and see. after all its a brand boosting exercise and they too wouldn't want to screw it up.

Default Think about it

For 15 lacs, you can get yourself a Laura, Jetta, new Lancer with VW diesel engine, used C class, loaded Civic with some savings etc etc. etc.You could even get a new accord if you throw in a bit more.

When you have all these options and the fact that socialites tend to think big is better, the 500 has its work cut out for it. Sure it is adorable and boy would I love one. But once FIAT crossed the 15 lac barrier (vs. 12 lacs), they pushed the 500 out of the realm of reason vs. leaving it at the outskirts of sanity.

Damn shame!
