See I told you Rehaan knew something more!!!!

Also Aerohit, Would you call ARAI and find out the costing procedure of such a project, I am not there or I would've done it myself. Do you plan to build the spaceframe from scratch or are you buying a kit?

Rehaan, could you post those links of the videos you sent me for these guys to see.

I really hope aerohit gets the permission to make a home built car.
It would be fun to follow it on team-bhp.There was this guy who made a countach replica in his basement.

A couple of years back a cousin and I prepared to build a Lotus Seven replica. We had complete plans for the frame, a step-by-step guide to cannibalize a donor car for parts, sheet metal instructions, wiring..... everything. We even located a cheap Fiat (Premier Padmini) that we planned to use as the donor. But we didn't have clarity on how to register it with the RTO. We approached the local RTO but he didn't know anything about custom vehicles. We then approached a couple of agents and other people, but nobody seemed to know anything and we were suggested to go to the State Head Office in Hyderabad. By that time we had already spent a good amount of time & energy and a not so small amount of money on the project and we decided it best to shelve it for the time being. And it never came out of the shelf. I'd very interested to find out if aerohit ever got a clear answer.

Here is a Lotus Seven pic for your enjoyment.

And one more...

Cheers.

Hope we get to see some kit cars at the AUTO EXPO. That'll be real fun. Can store one under the SAFARI/SCORPIO!

The 2 cars above look similar to Caterham
www.caterham.co.uk

I think Caterham kit (without engine) may be only better import option considering local conditions and price combined. (instead of low ground clearance and expensive cars like Ariel Atom and such..)

Engine can be sourced from local Civic 1.8.

As you may know Caterham R500 holds one of top ten position on Top-Gear power laps (faster than Bugatti Veyron)

Default What are the minimum requirements for the RTO to deem a car Road-Legal?

I have recently taken a gap year from my college, and apart from learning to do new stuff and simultaneously doing a correspondence course, I've also had a lot of time to come up with ideas ( a favourite passtime of mine). Recently struck me what the easiest form of transport given our terrible road conditions and traffic problems (especially in Bangalore) would be. I have got all the time and may even be able to pour in some of the required resources to see where this goes but before diving into this project, I wanted to better understand what the requirements are to have such a creation be allowed to be registered and ply on our roads. I know that this is important because this is the very reason ATVs did not sell as much as we all expected them to. I have visited the ARAI website and a few others as well and either the sites are poorly designed or I have been pampered by better user interfaces but I cannot seem to find any such list for India. Are there regulations on what the minimum height/width/length/weight etc. ought to be or any further specifications that must be held up to? Eagerly awaiting some replies

Cheers and thanks in advance!
